So 12 women have won open events. Out of how many? What % of the fields were women? Does it match the overall?

And are we really gonna try to be so PC as to claim that gender and age and appearance can't give you ANY information about the type of player a person is? None? Is it possible to maybe use that as a starting point and then adjust as we play with someone and gain information? Or do we have to go in with a purely blank slate on everyone and treat the 75-year-old grandmother exactly the same as the just-turned-21 with the hoodie?

And was it intentionally ironic that an article about treating the genders equally ends with a chauvinistic remark about how it's nicer to lose to women because they're pretty? Since all the others were announced, that one seems to stand out.

The answer is in the article: No detailed statistics with a reasonable sample size exist thus far.

It doesn't say you should treat them the same, you should keep prejudices away from the table because they lead to temptation.

Not really, the only ironic remark was about the shoes.

    Thank you for reading.

A quick google search found me the % of the overall turnout and the % of the Main Event for 2011. They've been reporting geographic, age, and gender demographics for years. It's not a sample, it's the population.

If we're not prejudging...isn't that going in blank slate? I guess I don't get the difference.

Good luck with finding the very same for all major international tournaments for the past 10 years, because that would give you a reasonable samplesize.

No it means that you only judge players based on their skill at the tables when you play against them and not what someone is wearing that day.
