Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 for sure!!
it runs pretty expensive, cheapest ive gotten it is $130 or so.
94 points tho!! and it is worth it, which is something I rarely say about wine.

For a very very good bottle under $50 i would have to go with

Hess Mountain Cuvee 2004 about $45 bucks usually and is I have seen it rated at 95 points by a couple of places!!! Does have to breath for about 10 minutes if it is 2004 or later though! the 2002 if you can find it runs about 10 bucks more but might be the best red ive ever had!

If you are looking for a great bodied red that is consistantly rated above 90 pts regardless of the year, and still will leave you enough money to eat diner with it (usually around 30-40 bucks I would have to say Luna Merlot is the way to go!!

    Luna Merlot Napa Valley, California

    i have a few favs....

Mastroberadino is a local vinyard in this region of Naples

"Mastrobernadino - Radici....the master wine makers of famed Campania based Mastrobernadino, bring a real treat....Taurasi...the black wine of Campania. This deeply colored and flavored Aglianico based wine is a powerhouse of fruit and structure. Couple the fruit and structure with a long firm finish and you have a wine that makes an excellent pairing for hearty fare. Perhaps you tire of California Cabernets and wish to try something more complex but with as much flavor...try this Taurasi!"
    750ml bottle $44.99/bottle (villagewineceller.com)

I also love any wine from Brunello di Montalcino in Tuscany. Banfi is the producer. Most excellent.

"Brunello di Montalcino was Italy's first wine to be accorded D.O.C.G. status, a testament to its aristocracy, balance and fabulous proclivity for aging. Under the direction of master winemakers, Banfi's Sangiovese grapes are transformed into a remarkable world-class wine, perhaps the most respected red of Italy.

Aged for a total of up to four years, including a minimum of two years in oak barrels, Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of robust character. It possesses a rich garnet color, and a depth, complexity and opulence that is softened by an elegant, lingering aftertaste.

Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino's regal qualities are best exhibited with game, red meats, roasts, hearty stews and rich powerful cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano." (www.wine.com)

    Nickle & Nickle

I prefer the Merlot....about $75 a bottle. The Cab is outstanding....if you can handle the tannin (about $180 a bottle).

Both are superb....but not very easy to get your hands on. I recommend finding them on the internet.... I have found that our local wine dealer has to order the Merlot by the 6....and you have to buy all of them at once.

    Internet is best.
