I understand that many people depend on SS, but I'm not saying it's right... it's a huge problem. The program can't be suddenly stopped for this reason, but the government has to find the most painless way of eventually winding it down through steady reductions. As soon as the government made the switch over to the pay-as-you-go system sometime in the 70's (I think... my last Public Finance course was in 1999), it became nothing more than a pyramid scheme. Eventually, someone has to bite the bullet and accept the fact that the money they put into the system ain't coming back. I know I have being only 30 years old.
