The amount of election threads in this pit is overkill IMO so how about something different for a change
There was a programme here in the UK where one of our morning show presenters wanted to find out about wet nursing over here and in the USA. I had never even heard of it until I had seen this programme.
The laws of nature would say that a woman breastfeeding a calf is wrong, yet a lot of women in the world choose to feed their children from cows (which is where forumla milk is derived from) but what about the idea of letting another woman breast feed your child? Wet Nursing in some societies is quite common but Im interested in whether the mothers in this forum would breast feed someone elses child, let someone breast feed their child if they were unable, and how would fathers feel about both issues?
We know breast is best. All proven medical research has shown " breast-fed babies had lower cholesterol levels later in life, that they would be less likely to have chest, stomach and ear infections and less likely to get allergies like asthma or illnesses like diabetes later in life.
Even for mothers there was evidence that breast-feeding reduced the risk of ovarian and breast cancer as well as helping with post-baby weight-loss. "
I am very much for breast feeding. I breastfed Alyssa for 10 months, at which time she weaned herself from me and for me exclusively formula feeding is not an option which poses the question if I had been unable to breastfeed my daughter, would I have let someone else. Selfishly, I don't know if I could. I would find it hard to watch someone else breastfeed my child and I would also be worried about the health risks but then are there any more risks to me feeding my child or someone else doing it.
Opinions?
