To me it wasn't the fact he sent messages but he stood up in front of everyone and told complete and utter lies. Then claimed he'd broken no laws. How can he stand up and say 'Trust me to represent you,I have your best interests at heart.'
Doesn't do anything for me. But it will put the issue to rest, get it out of the spotlight, so congress can get back to business without having to answer the same questions about this issue over and over again.Originally Posted by Moab

First of all it depends from which side of the Isles you sit as to if or not lying about sex is a sin .. There are a few from the right that lied about their tryst that haven't resigned or ask to resign from their party leaders.
Secondly only in America do we judge a politician because of his personal life .. Most all male officials throughout the world have mistresses even your King apparent who divorced one to marry his mistress. No one in Britain wants him not to serve as King because of that, after his mother dies..
Eisenhower had one ... his driver during WWII, We know of the Kennedy's and all of their women, FDR had one .. It sure as hell didn't effect their ability to govern or lead. But back in those days people had respect for the President until he really fucked up like Nixon ... And ... Oh .. Oh .. Oooo Reagan had one then married her .. And that Nancy boning Frank Sinatra while Ronald was Governor of California and she also boned him in the White House ...

Actually there are BUT he stood up and admitted it. Weiner stood up and lied! Then lied again. He lied to the people who are supposed to trust him.
I go by observation ... Did you ask for Arnie's head or an investigation to see if he was hushing up the bastard with peoples money from California .. I understand he was doing more than his merry maid using the State Police as escorts much like the charges against Clinton.
More importaint is I'll be watching you when the next right-winged scandal happens ..That will be the proof in the pudding.
Well since Arnie was already retired when the scandal broke, calling for his resignation was moot.
If there is a shit storm brewing around an elected official and it cripples his influence, his credibility, his ability to do his job, then he needs to step down, it's that simple. Party makes no difference.
But I still say the Republicans are far quicker to get out of the spotlight when shit hits the fan than are Dems, you don't have to agree, it's just my observation. I know there are Republicans (murderers even lol, though still not sure what he was supposed to resign from) who don't step down, but by and large they do.
So yes, we will see. But you won't eat crow ever anyway, so that is also moot.
And you should make better comparisons. You know Clinton lied under oath in a deposition in a lawsuit against him, and for that he was disbarred*. It isn't about the sex, it's in the way it's dealt with. The cover up is always what brings them down.
*actually he entered a plea deal where he paid a fine and his law license was suspended for five years to avoid federal perjury charges, and he was suspended from the supreme court and resigned the supreme court bar to avoid disbarment there.
