International 'militarisation' in Syria growing closer, warns US official
The international community may be forced to 'militarise' the crisis in Syria unless president Bashar al-Assad stops the onsalught on his people, a senior US official warned on Wednesday. ....The official from the State Department told The Daily Telegraph that while the White House wants to exhaust all its diplomatic options, the debate in Washington has shifted away from diplomacy and towards more robust action since Russia and China blocked a United Nations resolution condemning Syria.

The Pentagon’s Central Command has begun a preliminary internal review of US military capabilities in the region, which one senior official called a “scoping exercise” that would provide options for the president if and when they were requested

SO MANY remarkable things have sprung from the Arab Spring that it’s possible to overlook thatit has accomplished something that decades of communism could not: warmth between China and Russiations between the two countries were broken off.

The veto exercised by China and Russia in the UN Security Council on February 4th was another demonstration of how the two countries now see their interests as aligned.

US strikes in Yemen

The US has carried out at least four airstrikes in Yemen this month; the last strike took place on April 14 in Baydah province. The US launched at least six strikes against AQAP in Yemen in March.
