Hey ... wouldn't the price of gas go down if they didn't make gas higher than 87 octane? After all all cars manufactured in america in the last 20 years is designed to run on that grade. What % of gas evaporates or goes bad sitting in tanks and not being used because of the higher price on the higher grade which only suckers believe makes their cars run better.. Not since the computerized engine has octane had a effect on engine performance.
Or,,,,you could just ride your broom.

Floating top tanks and geodesic doams on the tanks help keep evaporation down. what always got me was that regular (leaded) gas was cheaper than unleaded, yeah I'm dating myself....was along time ago. unleaded fuel is how it comes out of the process, the lead was an additive.
SO how come they still refine high octane?

It's my understanding no auto built in america over the last 20 years needs anything higher than 87 octane and the higher grades are called sucker gas according to Bill Wattenburg ...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Wattenburg
I listen to his talk show .. even though we disagree on many issues, still love his common scene approach to logic.
