sounds very high minded, but a speech means nothing. actions are what count.

hell, obama says a lot of nice things that are contradicted by his actions. some can see that, some can't.

my guess is that back in the 60's the level of trust in the presidency and the slow trickle of information presented much more effective use of the "say the right thing in public - do something completely different where it counts" strategy.

so...who else is wondering if that speech was simply an ahead of it's time, masterful distraction??
