Army’s $7.4 million NASCAR sponsorship safe after proposed ban fails in U.S. House

““I have to invest in awareness,” said Lt. Gen. Benjamin Freakley, who commands the Army’s recruiting program.

In some venue or another, I have to make some form of investment to make the American people aware of their Army. … The alternative to this is having a recruiter walk up and down a mall and talk to about 150 people to get one person to engage them.”
“Now here’s the $7 million question: Does slapping a sticker on a race car convince a young man or a young woman to volunteer to serve our country in the armed forces?”
“Young people and their parents have this passion point about NASCAR, and we do know they come to the races and we do know … they come to [our] strength and action zone,” Freakley said. “They talk to our soldiers. They talk to our sergeants. We have a common dialogue on no threatening ground.

“You’re not standing in a recruiting station on the brink of a decision. You’re at a NASCAR event to have a discussion and a deep dialogue.”

Depending on how you define "advertising" the armed forces spends well over one billion per year getting the word out...

if you are going to have an all volunteer military, advertising for "employees" is going to be needed.

Gee .. how many potential recruits watch NASCAR?

I figure word of mouth and on high school campus's would be enough .... well that and watching the adds on radio, TV, the war itself, in all workforce service's ...

Fair would be having government sponsored Army adds for our rosy cheeked apple pie eating patriotic gonna get a college education fun luving boys and girls on the returning coffins of the dead rosy cheeked apple pie eaters who went off to war because of NASCAR ..

Oh it is very different than advertising a product. This is advertising for warm bodies to go fight in unjust wars with a great chance of coming home a cold body. If we were engaged in just and legal wars, I doubt you'd need to advertise.

According to Col. Derek W. Crotts, who manages the Army's NASCAR marketing and advertising program, nearly one-third -- 46,000 -- of the 150,000 leads Army recruiters get each year come from motorsports events.

sooo if enough people do not join, who will protect our asses, be it a good war, or a bad war , not there has ever been a good war. and surely you are kidding when you say there would be no problem if getting people to join for "just and legal" wars. Not that is is right, but our questionable gov decides the wars. First thing I think I have disagreed with you on.
