    Soooo....

How do you guys feel about all that's been going on with the military? You know, the Walter Reed scandal, the mishandling of information regarding the death of Pat Tillman in 2004 in Afghanistan. Pretty shitty, eh?

I, for one, would expect more out of the military brass. I mean they're supposed to be soldiers of honor, leaders for the rest of us.

Ed I spent 2 1/2 years (3/01 till 10/03) at Walter Reed taking care of the elevators in the main hospital and to me it is not a big surprise. It's the people who take care of the facilities, be it GSA or the general contractor. I hated my time there. I had to answer to a general contractor while being told not to talk to the government or military personal on what was going on. All three did not get along and there was incredible miscommunication on what was being done or how it got done. Now I know it is not the main hospital bldg that has the trouble but I know that this went on in all bldgs there also. They just made sure the main hospital was well maintained seeing that it is where everyone had to checked into.

I was being told by military personal what to do, while being told by the GC what to do and getting an questioned by folks in the government, who use to oversee the elevator maintenance contract and were pissed they lost it to an outside contractor, why I would not talk to them. They made work conditions unbearable.

Now Bethesda Naval Medical Center was as different as night is to day compared to W.W.. I was there for five years and they had there stuff together. One man ran the place and everyone answered to him. I loved it there, we refered to the place as the "Country Club". I was there before I moved to W.W., the company I worked for had both places under contract and the Clinton usually came to Bethesda for any treatment. When I got to W.W. the Bush administration decided that W.W. should be the "presidents" hospital. I have no idea why but then again we could say the same about many a things the current administration has done.

Anyway, it's funny Ed but have you ever spent any amount of time in a federal government bldg? The amount of waste that goes on is just amazing. I have spent time in the above plus State Dept., CIA, USDA, National Gallery of Art, National Archives (the one in College Park, MD where Samuel R. Berger took documents) and the Department of Commerce. Having spent my whole life next to D.C. and most of my 17 years in the elevator trade, it's a wonder we do not see more of this going on.

Makes you stop and think everytime someone suggests that the government be given an ever increasing role in out lives.

If they can't run a hospital how are they going to run national health care??

Government programs = Waste, Fraud and Incompetence. (more times than not anyway)

Now Doug, you know they are only here to help you right? Not one of us is smart enough to do that on our own.
