Smoking Ban in Bars

Here we have an issue, where you are trying to force EVERYONE to adhere to YOUR opinion of right and wrong... We used to deal with this crap at First Friday Fetish parties... People would come into the event, CLEARLY marked as First Friday Fetish, and then complain that they were offended by what they saw... We've even had the cops called a few times... The stock answer was always, "Well, what EXACTLY did you expect?"

Should there be no "R" rated movies because you should be able to watch ANY movie and not see things you don't like? Should bars be forced to only have drink specials on the drinks YOU like? What if a bar owner decides they're only going to serve beer and shots, should they be FORCED to make a customer a mixed drink?

Obviously, if every bar owner is free to make their bar smoke free, and VERY few of them do, citing loss of revenue.... That would seem to indicate that the MAJORITY of people who spend money in bars, smoke... So are you saying that we should pass a law, inconveniencing the MAJORITY of people, just because you feel entitled to go into ANY bar you wish, and expect it to conform to YOUR standards?

What about strip clubs? Many people have a problem with them... Does that mean that they should be banned because a person should be able to go into ANY bar they wish, and not be "subjected" to nudity?

It's very much the same.... Smoking offends you, so instead of just not going where there's smoke, you want to push your values on other people...

I'm pretty sure Doug explained his position as a bar owner, and he even stated he would love if he could breathe the fresh air of a non-smoking place But that as an owner, in his current position, he would like it to remain the same because he sees more revenue. Obviously, there would be a drop if his county was told to go non-smoking, but the next county over could remain smoking friendly. If EVERY county was forced to do it, I don't see a real loss of revenue on anyone's part....

No, if I were doing that, I would be saying that I should be able to smoke anywhere I please, even if the bar owner has decided to run a smoke free business...

I'm going use MINE to push for a law to force karaoke singers outside, because I don't like listening to a bunch of talent less wanna-be's screeching out their horrible renditions of songs I can't stand anyway... (If I hear "Don't Stop Believin" ONE more fucking time.. I may fucking shoot someone) And studies have shown that people who are subjected to overly loud karaoke suffer hearing damage...

I mean people should go to bars to drink, not to sing. If you want to sing, go to a recording studio, or a concert hall, or a campfire sing along... Karaoke singers assault My ears, and I don't understand why they don't just use common courtesy and sing outside where people don't have to listen to them...

You really want my 2 cents? Ok... Here goes. I’ve smoked in the past but don’t any longer. Bars and drinking are synonymous with smoking. You say bars were made for drinking, well that’s true. I’m also sure you could go back to the time when bars first came to be and there would have been many a smoker in those taverns, pubs, saloons etc. To me it’s not the issue of smoking itself, It’s the issue of the government telling someone that they can no longer smoke in a bar of all places. I would have expected you, being a conservative to feel the same way. Should a proprietor choose to have a non smoking establishment, so be it. To be told he must do so…just wrong!
Now as far as the karaoke issue..I agree 110% with SD. It’s horrible, painful and has ruined many an evening for me far more than any smoke filled room could ever do. On the rare occasion when someone is actually able to stay within key it’s still horrendous. It’s no different than any rec league of softball, basketball or soccer. It’s made up of people who refuse to give up on a dream that had no way of ever coming to fruition. The only difference with those leagues is, you pay to join them and no one is forced to watch it other than those involved. I say if people must sing badly…start a club and do it in private!

Again, would you go to a bar where there were playing music you KNEW you didn't like, and demand that they change it, because IYO, music shouldn't be a factor in where to drink.... After all, people go to bars to drink, not listen to music...

Actually, if you were to go to a bar in the UK, you would expect to hear music. If you wanted the quiet scene you would opt for a public house (pub)

This is bizarre! I don't know about America but in the UK, karaoke is done on set nights giving people the option of not attending on the nights that karaoke is on. Not exactly the same as a "smoke night" is it where on every other night that is a smoke free zone (within the same bar) you can still smell the stench of smoke!
