    Should Divorce be Illegal?

Over the past couple of years religious conservatives(I hope it's not demeaning to call them that Nicci ) have fought against allowing gay marriage. Their biggest arguments are that...

    1. It's wrong in the eyes of God, and condemed in the Bible.

    2. It's a threat to "traditional" marriage.

And 3. It's harmful and unfair to the children that may be involved.

    Now if that's the case...

    1. Divorce is wrong in the eyes of God and condemed in the Bible.

    2. What bigger threat can there be to a tradition marriage if not divorce?

And 3. It's harmful and unfair to the children that may be involved.

So my question is... Why are the religious conservatives fighting so hard to uphold "some" of their "values" and not "all" of them?

Regardless of religion, I don't think divorce shold be made illegal. I think it imposes far too many problems for both parties. There are different reasons for the eligibility to divorce. Adultery being one of them. If my spouse cheated on me, I am glad I would have the right to serve divorce papers. Whether I could or couldn't forgive, I wouldn't WANT to. I would lose trust and a relationship without that is a miserable one.

I get what you are saying but I think maybe religions realise they cant get away with making divorces illegal. In other words, I don't have a clue

Well, for Catholics, we don't believe in divorce, just like we don't believe in gay marriage. I hadn't considered the idea of fighting to make divorce illegal. But, then again, I've never considered fighting to make it illegal to not follow the commandment about worshiping only 1 God, along with a few others... Guess it could be a good way to divert attention from something else at some point.

is this about gay marriage rights or religious hypocrisy?? or has frank hit the jackpot and found a way to combine the two??

in any case, i don't think government should be in the marriage business other than recognizing domestic union legal contracts.

we do have to draw the line somewhere on a definition of what is acceptable. i think we can agree that "marriage" with a non human won't work...but what about age restrictions, inter family marriage, group marriage, etc?? society has to draw the line somewhere.

in general i say stop worrying about what the other guy does. don't worry about someone's sexual orientation and don't worry about religious practices. people can figure things out for themselves, they don't need to be protected nearly as much as the progressive ideology thinks.

Well then we should at least give every American this much, because right now they don't have it.

and they should, just so long as individual churches are not required to perform ceremonies that go against their beliefs.

call them civil unions, whatever...but the property rights and insurance issues, etc of "domestic partners" should be protected no matter the sexual orientation.

Well I am a religious conservative and I don't believe in divorce for the reasons stated above. While I still don't believe in divorce I am in the process of getting one and I can't do anything about it.

    1. God doesn't like divorce but it is authorized in the case of adultry.

    2. The biggest threat to my traditional marriage was another woman.

    3. Although I don't have biological children, it has been harmful to alot of kids in out life.

    So, what is your point?

I agree with Paulette. I made vows before God but if ever my wife walks out, you can't legalize against that. I made my vows to God and am answerable to Him. He will judge me, not the state or any other party. So divorce shouldn't be illegal.
