Why don't you start a movement, like has started in UK Nikki? Targetting the wealthy who avoid(legitimately) paying tax whilst preaching forrtax increases? They claim they are doing nothing legally wrong-more and more people are saying it is morally wrong. (see thread about targetting Bono).

This is the interesting situation about the debt ceiling......

If the Republicans do nothing, negotiate nothing, and refuse to back a raising of the debt ceiling, then the US Government can no longer borrow money. It then has to spend ONLY THE MONEY IT TAKES IN.

That means that the US first must pay it's loan obligations, then pick and choose where the money goes after that. The Government would IMMEDIATELY lose 44% to 50% of their spending capability.

What's gotta go?

First: Discretionary spending is eliminated by 100% immediately. After that, they still need to find another $50 billion in cuts.

Second: Defunding the localized pork barrel projects that have been passed and funded by congress over the last 20+ years. Expect to see an bill going through Congress that would be the anti-Omnibus from last year. Most of the earmarks that have been tacked on to other bills over the years will be done for.

Third: If one and two aren't enough. Defense is going to get squeezed. I would guess an immediate cut to R&D, and a scaling back of military presence in areas not currently in conflict.

The above is what's going to happen if the DEMOCRATS don't come up with the cuts that the Republicans want.

In other words, either the Democrats choose to take a medium sized dildo up the ass, or they're going to be taking a very large dildo up the ass in a month.

Republicans are going to get what they want either way.

Oh yeah, not a single tax increase will be able to go through the Republican led congress unless the Republican's agree to it.

What was it that Obama said during the health care negotiations to McCain?

Something about Elections having consequences and "We're not campaigning anymore, the election's over."

Personally, I'd prefer to see a negotiated settlement rather than a forced crackdown.

Why don't they eliminate the money they spend on illegal aliens, seems like I read its topped 300 billion a year. If this figure is true, sure seems like a great place to start.
