Sorry EZ im not having you misquote the voice of so called reason. Doug was talking about CO2 not other real pollutants which im sure he knows some of which are harmful. Why is it if you dont think CO2 is poison that must mean you love or ignore real pollution?

Its called binary thinking, either you care about "green" issues or you're a selfish prick.. fuck facts and stuff like that.

Ohhh doug you question Al Gores knowledge, Yes Gore from the tobacco growing family who had people filling their lungs with smoke. How dare you suggest CO2 is inert or that maybe its not the Big deal smokey Gore says it is.

All bow down to Al Gore and his European Communist friends, pay them some carbon tax and all we be well, of course youll be living like Russian serfs but so what, who can argue with saving the Planet.

I am also willing to follow any laws made regarding pollution. BTW Doug I tried to ride my horse to work the other day. I was stopped by the police and fined over $150 for littering!! That was after the mare took a few massive dumps along the way. I tried to explain to the officer that they do not make poopy bags big enough for horse dumps. Needless to say he did not buy into that story!!
EZ, what caused all the other (often much more dramatic) climate changes?? and why are we to assume that those factors are not playing a (possibly) primary role in our current climate change?? and even if it is due to CO2 how do we stop putting it into the atmosphere without fucking up the global economy??

as you found out, it's not so easy changing the way we live.

so, let's pretend Al Gore is 100% correct. which is worse, warmer temperatures, altered weather patterns and rising sea levels OR mass starvation and war caused by a collapsing economy and reduced food production??

i've got nothing against green technology research, so long as it's not forced upon us and destroys the economy. not building nuclear power plants was the worst possible thing we could have done as far as CO2 emissions is concerned. so why are we now supposed to believe the same group of marxist environmentalists who got that one so wrong?

Doug, I believe the most drastic changes were due to meteor impacts. Which has nothing to do with our current situation. I do not know all the hard data of how much impact volcano eruptions of the past changed our climate. IMO volcano's are not the cause of our global warming. I also have NOTHING against nuclear power. As long as the plants are safely ran and WELL protected from terrorist attacks. I would have no problem with them around me. I do NOT see how food production would be reduced by being greener? Please explain that theory. I do believe in order to stop C02 emissions. War would be necessary to stop other countries from emitting them. The BIG question is would it be worth it? I say probably not. So lets say we are causing the global warming. I believe we are essentially fucked!! Trying to deprive a under developed country of power would not be looked upon highly. IMO they simply could not afford these newer green ideas for a very long time. I also admit I am VERY selfish regarding my vehicle type. You would never find me driving a TINY little hybrid shit box. I just do not see the harm in trying to change slowly. Maybe start out trying to power homes with solar as much as possible. As of now a little solar panel on our boat lift at the lake is powering our lift. We did not put that on to be green. More because it is a pain in the ass running a cord out to charge the battery. I also agree that taxing companies on there carbon output is not the answer. The extra fees they pay will just be passed on to the consumers imo. Doug I also admit I have not looked at all the hard facts as you have. All I know is the weather seems really fucked up!! I live in the land of over 10k lakes. The second biggest lake in the twin cities is called White bear lake. It is in the process of drying up!! There are over 500 homes on this lake. 100 homes at the moment do not have access to the water. Some have ran docks a block or longer trying to get to the water. From what I have read. The reason for this is lack of rain. No nice sized river or springs feed this lake. Although this year we are still below average in MN for rain. It has been a better year than the past few years. I just believe small changes will lead to big changes. So have np with a green movement. Just a slow moving one. I recently heard a huge meteorite was discovered on a path toward earth. It is scheduled to hit or come close in somewhere around 170yrs. IMO if that one doesnt hit. One will eventually anyway and most of earths life will die. The world will start over again like it has in the past. So imo that is just a matter of time. So maybe a green movement is just a waste of time.

um, meteor impacts. ok, those sure did result in the "most dramatic" changes. but that's not what i'm talking about. it's the cyclical changes that have occured on a regular basis since the last large meteor impact kinda screwed up all the things we use to measure past climate.

what caused the medieval warm period and what caused the little ice age?? (two very recent examples)

food production - increase transportation and production costs and watch productivity fall. takes electricity to deliver water too. plus when the general economy declines i imagine there will be money troubles for agri business. everything is interconnected. not saying the developed world will starve, but aid to third world nations will probably drop.

in any case, we agree that changing slowly, doing what is cost effective and reasonable is the way to go. i do what i can in my personal life (whithout being obsessive). my a/c at home is set at 79. it's 90 - 100 every day and often humid, so 79 isn't so bad.

the key point i highlighted from the article was that all our efforts will really only spread out the use of carbon based energy by a few year or possibly decades and that isn't going to make much if any difference. (especially if the primary driver of our warming is natural climate cycles)

now, as for weather. last summer it was very hot here. from mid june to mid july 29 of 30 days over 100, many at 105 or higher. average early summer temps should have been low 90's. this year is july 31st and we have not hit 100 once. (99 yesterday) not that it matters because that's just local weather, but 2 pretty different years. oh and i'm halfway through my second hurricane season and so far despite predictions of above normal activity it has been very, very quiet!!

I would die the house being that hot!!

from mid june to mid july 29 of 30 days over 100, many at 105 or higher.

Remind me to NEVER go where you live in the summer!! I will walk around outside in 30 degree weather with a T-shirt on. I can not STAND heat well!! If the A/C is at 74 or above I may still sweat indoors sitting on the couch. Is there something wrong with me? lol
