It sucks living in this country at times. We think we have it ALL figured out. Socialized medicine is paid by higher taxes. We will never have socialized health care because the doctors, lawyers, pharmaceutical companies, and health care providers have a bigger lobby than anyone. We're fucked.
In my mind much of it comes back to the lawyers. The Doctors, Pharmaceutical companies and health care providers all want to make as much as they can, but in theory a free market should reign them in to some extent.
There is no free market to reign in the lawyers. Sue, sue, sue...and then add regulations to everything as a basis for even more lawsuits. Malpractice costs go up, doctors give unnecessary tests to cover their asses, costs go up, insurance rates rise and pretty soon letting the government fuck things up almost sounds good.
The fact that a large percentage of our politicians are lawyers only makes things worse.
You already pay into a national health care plan from the time you first enter the workforce until you fully retire .... It's called Medicare.
If we had cradle to grave Medicare on demand we could get rid of such non care and tremendous cost called Workman's Comp and SSI.
