Our Government is FINALLY working the way it should

I saw an earlier post by wubders in another thread that inspired me to write this.

Basically he said our Government was fucked up.

At first glance I was tempted to agree with him. However, the more I thought about history, the Constitution, and where our Government was heading, the more I realized that it's finally working the way it should.

Our country was founded on the belief that ANY Government involvement in a person's life was an intrusion and should only occur for the direst of needs, and only after careful deliberation and debate.

Take a look at the Bill of Rights. It was crafted to keep Government OUT of our lives.

Look at the structure of our Government. The system of Checks and Balances are there for a reason. It's supposed to stymie the rise of Government, and intentionally create roadblocks to getting anything done.

Why?

Because even our founding fathers knew that if you wanted something fucked up and done wrong, let the Government do it.

If something absolutely had to be done by the Government, then it shouldn't be something that's done cavalierly or casually. The issue should have to run the gauntlet and suffer the scrutiny of the diverse parts of Government before adoption. If it isn't right, then it should fail.

Until recently, the government was given a free pass. It's not that they were trusted to do the right thing, it's just that the public was too apathetic to make a difference. Nobody was paying attention, and those that were, didn't have a voice loud enough to wake the public up and affect the vote.

The Business of getting stuff done in Washington was the real art of the deal. "You want my vote? What do I get?" Votes were collected by trades. Re-election funding, earmark amendments, vote trades, committee assignments, better offices, political appointments for cronies, etc. etc. etc.

That ain't the case anymore.

You've got a whole new batch in office that couldn't give a shit about all that.

Their motto is, "You want my vote, write a fucking bill that does what I want"

Re-election? They don't care if they keep their job. Earmarks? Fuck that, they don't want anymore spending. Even if it's for their own district. Vote trades? For what? If it's against their principle they aren't allowed to vote for it anyways. Committee assignments? If they don't care about re-election, they couldn't care less about the committees either. Better offices? A good portion of the freshmen don't even have a residence in DC. They sleep IN their office.

Why do you think BOTH the Democrats and Republicans are frustrated by the Freshmen members. They have ZERO leverage against them.

AND THAT'S HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE!

Representatives now vote for their constituents. Not for their party, not for personal gain, and not for some misguided party solidarity.

The result -- gridlock, grinding, debate, argument, and frustration. Exactly as was planned by our founding fathers.

And here's the best part. It's only going to get worse.

Any time a group wants something from the Government, it's going to cost them twice as much in cuts from someplace else.

You want a debt ceiling increase? Submit a Balanced Budget Amendment to the States. You want to reform the Income Tax Code? Cut spending by 2 trillion. You want to eliminate corporate loopholes? Cut spending by 3 trillion. You want COLA on Welfare? Cut spending by 4 trillion.

The new breed doesn't want anything. It's just the opposite, they want less of everything.

The only thing that's going to be growing in Government is the new breed. Oh yeah, and the frustration of the old establishment as they realize that Business as Usual isn't going to be the usual any more.

Going to Congress should be about working out compromises that benefit all Americans not just one small group of the rich.

I guess you didn't read it all. Most of those standing their ground got elected because they aren't part of the establishment; they DIDN'T raise much money; and they DON'T care if they get re-elected. The Norquist pledge, if they signed it, doesn't have any consequence for them.

What happens if they stand their ground? No money for re-election? BFD, they're probably wishing they never ran to begin with, and after the latest fiasco, they probably don't want to come back.

Like I wrote earlier, whether you like it or not, get used to the new guard, they're only going to grow in number. Doesn't matter if it's Norquist, a grass roots sentiment, or rage about Obama's incompetence.

BTW - the big issue that's going to sweep them in during 2012 elections? The Balanced Budget Amendment. I suppose since Mr. Norquist was so successful in his "no taxes" pledge, (at least accordning to you) maybe he'll make them sign a "Cut, Cap, and Balance" pledge next.
