anyways....ya'll take it easy on him. no sense in being rude.....he has some valid points if you go back...read...and re-read what he has written.

I think his basic point was that society is trying to force thier views on us and our children and the way they are raised. Society is making children believe that "same sex" marriage is ok...when perhaps the childrens parents dont think it is. (which dont get me wrong...I am neither for it or against it). But that society is trying to "take-over" the nurturing part by trying to make us believe in things. whether they are right or wrong....well thats just for each individual to figure out for themselves. But I do agree that society has just as much impact on our upbringing as does our parents, and genetics.

Is that what you are saying....sorta sammy?? LMAO...if its not....well.....ok then...maybe I didnt understand you

OMG maybe I just made myself look like an idiot??????? LMAO

sorry ladies, i'll stick to my guns in saying that sammy is difficult to understand. he does seem like a nice fellow but an english composition class would do him a world of good.

i don't like having to guess at what he means and then make a comment that may be of base because it isn't clear what exactly he said. so i don't comment much on his opinions.

sammy, my first post asked about your use of the word "contends"...and you failed to clarify and went off on a tangent. all i ask is that if i don't understand and ask for clarification that you at least attempt to explain.

again i'll say i'm not bringing this up to disrespect sammy - sometimes i just need him to clarify.

Michelle, there have been a number of twin studies where twins who were adopted to two different families at birth were tracked down and their lives compared, and there tends to be a number of surprising consistencies in behaviour, from the twins choosing the same career to marrying people with the same physical and personality traits and, in some cases, even marrying people with the same name. Again, the suggestion is that nature pushes people in a very specific direction, regardless of environment.

As to Sammy (assuming Nicci's read is correct), the very definition of society has at its core a set of shared beliefs and values. These are in a constant state of flux and can shift significantly from one town to the next, much less from one country to the next. Most people tend to accept the prevailing societal belief system as rote without much analysis and this certainly colours the way people look at the world. For example, 150 years ago, among the prevailing beliefs in the United States were the notions that persons of colour were inferior and should be enslaved and that women were not fit to be considered "persons" under the law, nor should they have the right to vote. While these beliefs have changed over time, there are still factions that cling to those beliefs. Likewise, positions on same-sex marriage, abortion, stem-cell research, etc. are continuing to shift as people look at those topics. If society has begun to be a greater influence on children's beliefs than in previous generations, I am of the opinion that there are a lot of parents out there who have made a conscious decision to allow the Nanny-State to raise their kids in daycares, rather than at home, and that these parents really have no right to complain if their kids then wind up with a value system that is different from their own.

Just my opinion, of course. I could be wrong.
