I'm with some of the others - I think it's a mixture of both nature and nurture. Things become a bit blurred when you talk about "personality" though. Many traits that seem to be personality-linked are often physiological. Sometimes it's difficult for even me to tell where my "nature" ends and my "nurture" begins. LOL

And as far as Nature vs. Nurture..............It takes both, can't have one without the other. This is an area of such broad debate, however I'm quite sure our researcher's will continue to try and prove and/or disprove one theory wrong!

As far as I'm aware, no studies have indicated any intellectual differences between the genders. However, there have been behavioural differences noted in several studies. I recall one study that we were told about in my Early Childhood Development course (I may be childless-by-choice, but that doesn't mean I haven't done my homework), groups of boys (18 months to three years old) were given gender-neutral dolls to play with, then girls were given the same dolls. The boys tended to play "war games" with the dolls, engaging them in battles and beating each other with them. The girls nurtured the dolls as if they were babies. So the "stereotype" of girls tending to be nurturing and boys being more conflict-driven was indicated as being innately characteristic of the respective genders.

Seriously though.......Men aren't "smarter" than women, and women aren't "smarter" than men. Each gender has thier genuises, and each gender has thier dumb-asses. You will never be able to prove either way there are more in one gender than the other.

And chess has nothing to do with how smart you are. I don't play chess. I probably could If i learned how - but I never took the time to learn the game. However - I have known some pretty dumb fucks who could play chess like no other. I've also known some real genuises who couldnt play chess to save their lives (even though they knew how to play). Chess is about strategy and concentration. Even though you can equate the two to how your mind works - it surely doesn't show whether you are a genuis or a dumb-ass.

Now if you want to play checkers...... lol

I think any discussions of which gender is smarter are very close to meaningless. Are there some things that one gender does better than the other? Of course - we don't have to look further than peeing standing up (without dribbling down your leg). Is one gender empirically smarter than the other? Impossible to prove or disprove. The question is too subjective and amorphous for a meaningful discussion.
