    Michele Bachmann's Anti-Porn Pledge

There are those rare moments when Larry Flynt makes a lot of sense... and IMO this is one of them.

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...rn-pledge.html

Why is Bachmann’s porn pledge bad for America? Because pornography is a metaphor for our society and for freedom of expression. When the government begins to ban a perfectly legal—although to some offensive—activity merely to satisfy personal wishes and religious beliefs, the door is opened for all of our political freedoms to vanish. It creates a slippery slope for all the activities we enjoy to be questioned and put under the watch of the government. And that is not freedom.

So while Michele Bachmann may feel it appropriate to shove her religion in the face of Americans, perhaps she should take a moment to recognize that her signing of this Marriage Vow is in direct opposition to another vow she claims to have taken: To be a representative of the citizens of the United States. With the troubling issues facing this nation, it is shameful that a presidential candidate would spend her political capital on trying to limit our individual rights by restricting what we can do in the privacy of our bedrooms.

Let's not forget that this "pledge" also said that black were better off when they were slaves.

Which helps to prove my point that todays "Christians" have absolutely no idea what-so-ever what their religion is all about.

Funny how Obama is actively pursuing poker but you remain quiet about that.

Trust me, Geoff... I'm no Obama fan. It honestly doesn't seem to matter who is in office these days (if you remember, G.W. Bush got the ball rolling on making online poker illegal in the U.S anyway.) I'm just saying that by Michele Bachmann wanting to remove our freedom of speech (by censoring ANYTHING... it doesn't matter that it's porn) is representative of a scary scenario for the future. Police state, anyone?

I did say in another thread that was both parties, they chip away at our liberties until we accept it as normal- they've banned wearing crosses in some jobs in UK. A bit at a time because they know best what is good for us.

    Blame the Wars ..

    The war on drugs
    The war on Illegals
    The war on pornography
    The war on terrorism
    The war on Castro
    The war on poverty

These are just some of the "legally recognized" and on the federal governments record, wars that help slowly erode civil liberties in order to minimize us from exposure to the "wars".

As much as I like my vast porn collection I dont think its particularly good for a society to make so much of it. There are a lot of arguments to say porn should be restricted to some extent. For instance it already has to fit around what the culture considers taboo.

Regardless of what is considered taboo at any given time there is evidence that porn is harmful, for instance a young woman being "spit roasted" or being made "airtight" and then being covered in 30 mens semen may seem romantic to some, but im pretty sure most of the women who do that sort of work are in it for the paper money.

On balance though I would say if thats what people do of their own free will, then they should be allowed to.

In hindsight I wonder if there is any sort of porn that you would ban or keep banned Mrs Luvin?

not police state, nanny state. government knows what's best for us so let's all just roll over and be submissive. both parties have their ways of telling us what we can or can't do, but just keep in mind that the bigger government gets and the more power it has one certainty is less freedom not more. sadly, many people WANT to be taken care of....until the issue is something that affects them in a way they don't like.

so...IMO anyone wanting the government to grow even larger just needs to STFU and accept the "new normal" because what's the difference between the feds telling us what we can eat, what kind of light bulb to use, making sure gas prices go through the roof or telling us that porn is a no-no?? it's all the same to me.
what matters most in life is honesty. it's never wrong to do the right thing.
