Brian Kammer, a lawyer for Davis, said in seeking a stay from the Supreme Court that newly available

evidence revealed false, misleading and inaccurate information was presented at the trial, "rendering

the convictions and death sentence fundamentally unreliable".

The case has attracted international attention and an online protest that has accumulated nearly 1

million signatures because of doubts expressed in some quarters over whether he killed police officer

Mark MacPhail in 1989.

Since Davis's conviction, seven of nine witnesses have changed or recanted their testimony, some have

said they were coerced by police to testify against him, and some say another man committed the

crime.



No physical evidence linked Davis to the killing.

It would appear that you are correct. There is a live feed from outside the prison by Democracy Now. Amy Goodman has been there all day covering the story with those gathered there hoping it wouldn't go through.

I'm wondering what happened to the stay from earlier. My interenet connection is not so good at the ranch, so was not able to get much from the video feed.

executed for a crime committed 22 years ago is hardly a rush to punish. I know nothing of the case in particular, but it would seem if the truth had not come to light so far, a stay would not likely change a thing.

I do believe the death penalty is deserved by some. That said, I believe in it's current form it is unconstitutional under the equal protection clause. This was demonstrated when Norm Maleng gave Gary Ridgeway a deal that spared him the death penalty. If the most prolific serial killer in US history is not deserving of the death penalty, then nobody is. It showed that knowing where more bodies are buried is an effective bargaining chip against the death penalty, which in my view encourages rather than deters.

There are other examples, but the point is there should be a strict application of the death penalty and prosecutorial discretion should not be a factor.

also, are you speaking out about the death penalty in general or only about this case where conviction was due to witness testimony rather than physical evidence?

Lucas you comment on an execution in another country. Many countries in the world are executing people for the sin of being gay. They claim it is justified under 'sharia' law. Obama celebrates the 'liberation' of Egypt, Tunisia, Libya etc:- They want to impose 'sharia' law, make it a crime to be gay, a crime for a woman to commit adultery(punishment-stoned to death).
