Not really a whole lot of difference except for the fact that at this time in President Reagans adminstration things were actually getting worse, where the numbers for President Obama are actually improving.

So does that mean that President Reagan lead us into a deeper "depression"(as Shay calls it) than what we're going through now?

There was no Depression in the 80's. There is one now. Simple as that. People can twist things around, or cherry pick facts, any way they want. It doesn't change the fact that the guy you voted for is presiding over the first United States Depression since 1939. He inherited a Recession and now, instead of leading us into a recovery, as Ronald Reagan did with that Recession, and other presidents (both Republicans and Democrats) have done, Barack Obama has done the opposite and led us into a Depression. I realize that some people are insulated from it and don't see it for that reason, I guess, but it's a Depression...and I hope our president reverses course and helps get the country out of it before it turns into something worse than a mild Depression.

Like I said in a different thread... Please be careful when drinking the Republican "kool-aid" I think that "Faux News" spiked it with drugs.

spin it how you like frank, but reagan's tax cuts were followed by the longest period of economic expansion in u.s. history. the cuts were phased in so the immediate effect was muted, but the long term effects proved to be quite good.

obama may have produced a small drop in unemployment more quickly, but many say it is at the expense of the long term effects of increased debt. many are already saying that the "recovery" obama has bragged about has run out of steam. honestly i hope not - but i fear it has.

if the economy is still lagging in november 2012 someone else will get a crack at fixing the economy. of course the lefties will STILL be blaming bush....

and again, THIS is what we need to be looking at - not more stimulus

I realize that some are still somewhat insulated from the economic disaster unfolding in this country, and other countries, and can remain in denial about it. I'm not personally bothered by it much at this point, either, since I made some good choices way back when Obama's poll numbers made it seem likely to me that he would be elected. As for Republican Kool-aid, I am far beyond the point where I even care which party is in power in Washington. I just hope the president starts making some adult choices to help this country's economy (while this Depression is still in its early stages), or at least gets out of the way so our economy can recover on its own...before you, and other Obamabots, are forced to agree with me about the Depression...whether you want to or not. I manage my own finances and watch the underlying "un-massaged" economic numbers very closely. You can trust me when I tell you that those numbers do not look good for this county's economic future at the moment. We are not recovering! We are heading for another fall, a second dip, if you want to call it that, worse than the one we recently had. If our direction isn't altered, or if our government doesn't get out of the way and allow the American economy to right itself and lead the world out of this mess, the casual observer will understand soon enough the difference between Reagan's slow Recession recovery and Obama's Depression. I hope that doesn't happen!

...and looking back at Reagan's unemployment rate instead of looking ahead at ways to allow this economy to recover.

You mean economic expansion in China, here in the US of A we lost almost all of our manufacturing jobs to Mexico then when the Mexicans wanted more loot the jobs went to the Commies who Reagan hated.

Who got rich off Reagan was the already wealthy. We lost the middle class and blue collar workers. In 2010 wages are lower than they were when Reagan destroyed the ATC Union and wages stagnated. So the working class learned to borrow money off their credit cards and homes until that too collapsed and now the work'in class only has payday loans where they can hock there cars for two weeks.

    Not that it really matters...

But over at "Faux News" one of the biggest things they keep harping on are President Obamas approval ratings.

Yet I never hear them compare his ratings to the "Republican Messiah".

Well just for shits and grins...
