Bloody awful topic... well it is if you equate it to child abuse, but let's not do that and instead discuss consensual sex between those of age but blood relatives.

What do you know about it and what do you think about it? Different countries and different cultures have very mixed views as to whether incest should be prohibited.

OK start with child abuse- I could never read about it because it made me felt sick then I became pally with someone who worked with abused children . I have to be honest, I thought she was exaggerating when she told me how widespread it was and the sort of people connected- so I read about it- makes you sick to the stomach asnd she was right, extremely widespread and I really admire the people here who have spoken about it- that takes guts.

In Asia it is widespread and many 'arranged' marriages are between cousins/relatives. All joking apart in parts of country with remote villages it was just about inevitable interbreeding would happen. Is it wrong between cousins? hard to say because today with so many children growing up not knowing who their father is, has to happen unkowingly.
Definitely wrong if they intend to have children as kids more likely to have complications. If they don't intend to have kids is it wrong. I'll sit on the fence.

I think it does matter the position of the relationship. Lineal, ie direct bloodline grandparent, parent, child, grandchild (don't read that as under-aged) seems wrong to me. Love should be for a peer when one thinks of setting up home and perhaps producing children (lineal relationships are not one's peers). Love within the family is totally different and the basic urges (sexual) controlled.

I find it amazing how countries differ in their approach to incest, some do not prohibit it and others deem it illegal and hence have custodial prison sentences for it.

I can understand in the past (and it is even Biblical... so those who deem it sick and are religious should perhaps open their minds, Billybob lol) the necessity ie procreation due to circumstances... survival of a species. Animals do it but they do not have a moral code.

In the UK first cousins can marry... which obviously states this isn't incest.

Sorry kiddo, my mind will never be open to this, due to the fact I do know the Lord, spite of some of my posts!! Maybe you should rethink this !!! Of coarse if they get pregnant and the Dr tells them it will be deformed in some way, they can always get an abortion, which I think is wrong also.

Biblical Cousin Marriages

Each of the following individuals in scripture were in the lineage of Mary, Christ's mother, or Joseph, his "earthly" father, who were chosen by God to raise His son. Most, if not all, occurred (chronologically) after the time in which Levitican law was written. Zelophehad's daughters did as the LORD commanded Moses. Zelophehad's daughters, Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah, married their cousins on their father's side (Numbers 36:1-11).

Biblical prohibitions of cousin marriage reside only in the minds of the unlearned. We can find many instances of where God had blessed cousin marriage. In fact, the Catholic Dictionary finds that Christ's parents-- Joseph & Mary-- were first cousins. Protestants come to the same conclusion. Do I believe that Joseph and Mary were first cousins? It's likely, but I do not need this to validate my relationship. It will be fun to tease Joseph and Mary a bit when I get up there.

Milcah was married to her cousin, Nahor. They had a grand daughter named Rebekkah. In Genesis 24:48-51, the story unfolds of how, against all odds, God's direction for her to marry her cousin's son Isaac (first cousin once removed) is made crystal clear.

Isaac and Rebekkah had two son's. Jacob was the son whom was blessed to fulfill God's prophecy that the descendant's of Abraham (Jacob's grandfather, Isaac's father) would become a great nation. Isaac instructed Jacob to marry a daughter of Rebekkah's brother. Although he immediately fell in love and became engaged to his cousin Rachel, his uncle tricked him into first marrying Rachel's sister Leah. Although God blessed Jacob greatly, Jacob suffered much grief and heartache for having married both sisters. Jacob's descendants became what is now known as the twelve tribes of Israel. (Genesis chapters 19 and 29)

In I Chronicles 23:22, Eleazar's daughters married their first cousins. Very little detail is given of this event.

Of course you can argue Joseph wasn't Christ's Father but God still chose first vcousins to bring Him up

The bible stories are a long way from the modern man.....and alot those peeps back then didn't want to interbreed with outsiders, like some inbred royalties have done thru history...although genetic ancestrial testing shows the middle east to be the most 'mixed' genetically in the world, as there were alot of young women traded between tribes to provide new breeding stock for the 'Chief', although sure some other fellows would get some of the new fresh stuff on the sly... In Appalachia, USA I think 1st cousin marriages were more common in the recent past, and think their new protocol is to only tap their 'once removed' cousins, or is it be sure to 'remove it' in time, when with your cousin--lol..btw,nn wuvs her cousin

I know what the bible says, when there was only Adam and Eve, and children were born, for the world to multiply, it happened. That does not make it right this day and time. No way do I believe it is right today, no one will ever convince me it is.
