curt, satellite measurements confirmed it. as you like to say, it's not a zero sum game - especially when the levels of plant food (CO2) are increasing. and warmer temps are good for both plants and animals. wanna see the total mass of both plants and animals decrease by huge amounts?? two words - ice age. i know there are many counterbalancing effects, but there is no doubt that cold = bad, warm = good.

of course that doesn't mean stripping the amazon bare is a good thing, but our planet is tough. much tougher than us weak insignificant humans. the earth will be fine long after humans are gone.

we should probably have this discussion elsewhere - maybe you could find one of the 2 or 3 global warming threads. i'm pretty sure the data i mentioned in linked in one of those threads. hell, i think if i get a few days of free time i'd do it just so the alarmists could see how wrong all of their data and projections and models have turned out. or maybe paul might want to do it...lol...how's your schedule look paul??

first, don't get me wrong, Im not a global warming alarmist by any stretch, and I do agree that "our planet is tough. much tougher than us weak insignificant humans. the earth will be fine long after humans are gone."

That said, it is indeed a zero sum game, there is only so much land and if you clear it all, well it's over. The earth will go on but we won't. the study you linked compares years in too narrow of a window to be significant. A comparison from now and from the seventies would be far more impressive.

It sure would be nice to have a clean earth while we're here and perhaps when we vanish the healing won't take too long.

Theres hardly a island in the world that doesn't have garbage from America washing up on them ... In two years a massive junk pile will start washing up on the Washington, Oregon and California coast and all of those pristine beaches along the Baja Peninsula...

And no the warming trend will not be a benefit as as much new northern permafrost land gained desert in the South and in Northern South America will get worse.

it's called change nikki, it's always happened and always will. humans have "over" populated for one reason - a very beneficial window of climate stability. our egos let us believe we can control nature, but reality is much different.

rising sea levels or ice age - at some point we will have to deal with both if we have any plans on surviving as long as the dinosaurs. instead of preparing we whine and use these natural events for political gain. being that short sighted really makes me wonder about our chances of survival as a species.

and curt, there is no doubt that there is more plant life on earth now than in the 70's. of course there is far less than during the days of CO2 rich atmospheres hundreds of millions of years ago, but that just shows that there are forces far more powerful than humans at work.

yes it's getting warmer and the oceans are rising slowly, just the same as it did before humans were around in significant numbers during the last interglacial period....and it will continue till the next ice age starts.....all this was known long before Gore's decision to cash in on the CO2 myth .....there are many scientist with valid arguments, questioning CO2s role as greenhouse gas at all....

lol...nikki, i've said over and over that temperatures have indeed increased since the 1850's. remember though that they are lower than during the other times in the last 1000 years and that the warming has stalled in the past 10 years despite even higher CO2 levels.

the climate controls us, we do not control the climate.

Plese get it straight ... Gore contributes co2 as ONE of the green house gassed. Here's the twist on the whole thing if co2 is plant food and plant food is on the rise creating more plants what is the by product of plants ... Yep o2 ... what will the result be from more than about 21% o2 ... and if o2 goes up co2 goes down ... co2 currently is about .0040% ... the best guess ill be a lethal dose of smog.
