    just curious....

let's say that money was appropriated in a transportation bill but sat collecting dust for 4 years, then someone came along and gave it away to build say, a bridge to nowhere. is the administration that appropriated the money responsible or is the one that made the decision where to spend it responsible??

moab's logic and reasoning is so flawed, it explains why she is a liberal. it's really pretty sad to watch her demonstrate again and again her lack of understanding.

It's not that .. First even the bridge to nowhere was a bridge linking a Peninsula used as a campaign tool to discredit democrats and was inflamed by Sara Palin until it became known to all that she spent the money.

Now as for helping a company with a track record expand ... well it was about jobs right the very thing you people want Obama to produce. That company failed not because of greed or misuse of funds, it failed because we cannot protect our onshore companies against China, who dropped the price of solar panels by 42% and making Solyndra as the third domestic solar company to announce bankruptcy last month, joining Evergreen Solar and SpectraWatt.

What I get from some people here is that they have very low self-esteem and ravel in the failure of others because they are themselves failures.

I find it horrifying that people get glee out of watching thousands of people lose their jobs in a economy that they are unlikely too get another one soon.

Reading some of the threads one wold get the impression that Obama did it on purpose so he could pocket money.

    you so funny.

notice there is nothing in the post either admitting she was wrong or defending her position. just run away and change the subject, and make some generalized accusations in the process.

i don't think anyone here is gleeful about anyone losing their job. the point is, the failure was predictable, why dump $565 million into a ship that has a date with an iceberg?

without checking your claim for accuracy, let's just pretend their were no cheaper Chinese solar panels. the production price was out of line with the cost of energy anyways and would have required huge government subsidies (funded by tax payers) to be competitive, or we would have need much higher energy costs (a stated goal of obama) that would have meant the loss of millions of jobs throughout the economy. almost sounds like YOU would be gleeful about the loss of oil production jobs and all the others that would have to happen to make green energy work.

Four thousand years ago Moses said to his people:
    'pick up your shovels,
    mount your asses,
    load your camels,
& ride to the Promised Land.'

Four thousand years later Mr Obama said to his people:
    'throw down your shovels,
    sit on your asses,
    light up a Camel:
    This is the promised land.'

'Fascism-You keep the cows but give the milk to the government, which sells some of it back to you'

Bullshit .. Not one of you including NY .. ever once mentioned this company. Gleeful that Obama's Energy Secretary made a loan to someone other than oil and it was at a time where businesses in America are failing at a appalling rate. Not one here including myself predicted the bankruptcy of two other solar panel manufactures.

without checking your claim for accuracy, let's just pretend their were no cheaper Chinese solar panels. the production price was out of line with the cost of energy anyways and would have required huge government subsidies (funded by tax payers) to be competitive, or we would have need much higher energy costs (a stated goal of obama) that would have meant the loss of millions of jobs throughout the economy. almost sounds like YOU would be gleeful about the loss of oil production jobs and all the others that would have to happen to make green energy work.
First I did check for accuracy can you show me where China isn't selling solar panels cheaper? No I won't pretend they don't exist. But ...Gulf Oil Spill Update: Scientist Finds Gulf Bottom Still Oily, Dead The cost of energy .. don't make me laff .. we still don't know the cost of the oil leak in the gulf.

My personal view of solar is ( many share my view) what's wrong with in the sun belt have solar panels on your roof tops tied into the grid (grid tie system) and during the day use solar power and the surplus goes into the grid then at night you can buy back your power out of the grid. This would take great pressure off the electrical generation industry and reduce carbon emissions. This would be a growth industry and employing skilled labor.

Oil has nothing to worry about as solar, nuclear, gas and wind will never replace it 100%. After they pump out the last dinosaur then we'll have that discussion ... where Obama forbade the clowning of dinosaurs as a renewable energy source.

Gleeful no because if done over time those lost oil jobs will slowly be absorbed into the new fields of energy. Just remember simple math .. as population grows so does the need for energy. It's estimated that 553 thousand people are employed in the oil industry. A industry where the labor force is under educated. Sadly as population grows one source of that energy is fastly depleting.

Food for thought .. China knows that's why they are investing in and manufacturing all sources of energy. China is building cookie cutter factory built and field assembly nuclear power plants. From the time of the start of building and including shipping and final assembly it takes just over 3 years .. They require solar usage in the sun belt of China. China has moved ahead we're standing with the dust in our faces afraid to gamble on the future ... Ooh and guess what today they announced they now have built the fastest computer in the world .. That once was ours to brag about.

Well, Solyndra's been all over the news today. Surprisingly, even the lamestream media has picked up on it.

FBI raided the place a few days ago, and now e-mails are coming out about the time-line, and White House involvement in Solyndra.

As it turns out the Bush administration put the loan process on hold before leaving office. Once Obama was in, it was fast tracked for approval.

Through a series of e-mails between the Department of Energy, the Office of Management and Budget, and the White House, it appears that the White House was interested in trying to synchronize the approval of the loan, with an early September trip by Biden to the ground breaking ceremony for Solyndra.

Here's just a few of the excerpts from the E-Mails from the Washington Post:

One e-mail from an OMB official referred to “the time pressure we are under to sign-off on Solyndra.” Another complained, “There isn’t time to negotiate.”

“We have ended up with a situation of having to do rushed approvals on a couple of occasions (and we are worried about Solyndra at the end of the week),” one official wrote. That Aug. 31, 2009, message, written by a senior OMB staffer and sent to Terrell P. McSweeny, Biden’s domestic policy adviser, concluded, “We would prefer to have sufficient time to do our due diligence reviews.”

In one e-mail, an OMB staff member questioned whether the review team was using the best model for determining the financial risk to taxpayers in evaluating the Solyndra deal. “Given the time pressure we are under to sign-off on Solyndra, we don’t have time to change the model,” the staffer wrote.

In one e-mail, an assistant to Rahm Emanuel, asked whether “there is anything we can help speed along on OMB side.”

An OMB staff member responded: “I would prefer that this announcement be postponed. . . . This is the first loan guarantee and we should have full review with all hands on deck to make sure we get it right.”

What's worse is that Solyndra may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Frank Rusco, a Government Accountability Office director who helped lead a review of the Solyndra loan and the Energy Department’s loan guarantee program, said the GAO remains “greatly concerned” by its 2010 finding that the agency agreed to back five companies with loans without properly assessing their risk of failure. The companies were not identified in the report, but the GAO has since acknowledged that Solyndra was one of them.
    And yet even worse news.....

The same loan program that gave Solyndra a half billion dollars STILL has 10 billion left in it's coffers to distribute, and the deadline for that distribution is September 30th.

I wonder if it's too late to put a solar panel on my balcony and apply for a couple of million?
