    How about that Global Warming .....

    Record tornadoes in the mid lands, record snow and rain in the NW, colder than normal in the South and mixed unusual weather along the East Coast ...

    Is it too late to turn this weather around? Personally I think we are beyond the point of save return and as the polar ice melts bringing more dense and colder water into the warm pacific it only will get worse.

    extreme cold = global climate change
    extreme warm = global climate change
    hurricanes = global climate change
    tornados = global climate change
    raining in Seattle = Local climate the same

    The climate has changed on the planet many many times in it's history, even before man. Global Climate Change is just another angle environmental extremests use as propoganda.

    The arrogance of man, to believe his small presence on this planet has any significance to the global existance amazes me. There were once mighty creatures who roamed this planet for millions of years, far longer than man has ever been here, and they never made machines, burned fuel, made bombs . . . and where are they now?

    man = insignificant

    when I was in school the scientists were telling us we were heading into another ice age . . . wtf happened to that theory? I know that was a while ago, but we burned fossil fuels even then lmao

    and to end this disjointed ramble, let me just pose this . . . .

    Q: The world was once (more than once, but let's just go back to the last time) in an ice age that peaked 20,000 years ago (before industry, fossil fuels, etc.), yet it is no more. How can that be?
    A: Global Climate Change (all on it's own)

    Scientists don't have a consensus about whether the spike in tornado activity is due to climate change. There's just not enough data.

    If it was just warming then the activity would actually be less. Tornados need both warm air and cold air to form. The frequency and severity of the storms are due to abnormally colder air coming down from the northern continent, and warm moist air coming from the Gulf of Mexico. If both masses of air were warmer, then we would be seeing a more 'normal' storm cycle.

    Other factors that are creating this spike is perception.

    Our technology has advanced to the point where we have near instantaneous communication, and we have video capabilities to record everything that happens.

    Also, our weather tracking technology has advanced so that we're better able to see and record the events as they happen. As little as ten years ago, if a tornado touched down in a wide open space and no one saw or reported it, then it wasn't recorded.

    Now, with the advanced doppler and satellite tracking, we can see and record a tornado regardless if it interacts with people.

    April 1974, may have been a worse outbreak of tornados than what we are currently seeing. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track and verify technologically what happened then, versus what's happening now. We do know, however that the April 1974 outbreak spawned 6 F5's and 24 F4's. And, much like the recent tornados, they stayed on the ground an exceptionally long time.

    Urban sprawl has also increased our chances of encountering tornados. More people taking up more space means there are more trailer parks for the tornados to destroy. And since most cell phones have video cameras built in, everyone get's to see them.

    The question is, if this outbreak is due to climate change, then what caused the 1974 outbreak or the 1936 outbreak? Both of those have the same genesis and seem to be very close in severity.

    I am with Curt on this one .... kinda like the "Save the Planet" crap ... You are not saving the planet, the planet was here long before man and it will be here long after man ... you are trying to save your own ass .. the planet isn't going anywhere
