simple question. why are oil companies drilling in 5,000 feet of water in the first place when there are oil resources in so many other places??

do you think that rig would have been there at all if environmentalists had not blocked nuclear power and drilling in places like ANWAR or in shallow offshore waters??

forcing oil companies to test the limits of technology because of a PC environmental agenda - what could go wrong??

any rational person should look at this disaster and see that it proves why we should drill baby drill and recover oil in areas where it is easier to get to.

we can't change the policy mistakes that limited our energy options in the past, but we can make changes to ensure abundant energy in the future.....

step one, drill baby drill - we need to meet current demands.
step two, build as many nuclear plants as we need as fast as we can. cheap electricity with no CO2.
step three, use the natural gas we now use to generate electricity to power cars. the technology already exists. screw electric cars - they suck and the electricity comes from where exactly?? (not to mention all those nasty bateries in electric cars)
step four, continue to develop green technology and make it affordable. steps 1, 2 and 3 buy us lots of time to find better solutions than what we have now. (expensive and unreliable because many of the materials are scarce and mostly come from china)

pretending that a zillion windmills or solar panels is the answer is the same sort of thinking that forced us to drill in 5,000 feet of water.

oh, and as i said before, don't even waste your time cleaning birds. toss the birds in a dumpster with the tar balls.

Like drilling in other places is going to help .. what you haven't figured out yet is we are of cheap oil and drilling in the last of the few pristine wildlife sanctuaries isn't the answer either. The answer was less complicated back some 30 years ago when Carte suggested energy conservation, alternative fuels and Reagan took us in the other direction and we are where we are at today because of our need and greed. The answer is simple the oil pool the went after could have provided more profit than a shallow low pressure small sized pool thats left for the Arcos, Sinclares and Williams's, the small land based drilling and refinery's.

BP 5000 ft well produced the best quality oil on or in the earth light brown sweet crude Alaskas oil is thick high sulfer and not in demand on the world market like light sweet.

I live very well now that I've installed solar and led lighting, my energy bill is halfed.
