Dependence Day

I have to admit this seems to have more than a grain of truth so when I heard a fill in radio host mention that Independence Day should be changed to Dependence Day it made me think it was a poli pit worthy topic.

So many seem so eager to look to the government to take care of their needs that the idea of Independence seems rather outdated. It's not just on a personal level either as our government goes further in debt to finance these programs we become more dependent on those who hold the debt.

Has the idea of Independence run it's course?? Would you prefer to have freedom and the responsibilities that come with it, or have the illusion of security that comes with someone else looking out for you??

I don't know, but you make a valid point.

I think there needs to be a definite balance of both. I want the freedom to enjoy absolutely any and everything I want, but a lot of those freedoms have been taken away. But I love that we have such a strong military force looking out for the needs of our country. I think a lot of the power resides int he wrong hands.

I think this is a case of 'be careful what you wish for'. Everyone loves to rail against the ways that the government ruins our daily existence, but there are a lot of protections we take for granted here. Strong property rights, one of the best legal systems in the world (depsite what anyone tells you)...it's kind of a package deal.
