Maybe made your case according to YOUR thought process of what civilized is...

Now excuse me while I get back to my BBQ so we can eat some raw red meat, drink to excess, and shoot our guns at the sky-(maybe each other if we drink to much)-here in hillbilly land!

I know for dang sure you ain't no hillbilly, John. I'm sorry that's the impression you got.

The point is; Execution has been done away with in many countries. Why do you think that is?

My personal stand on the subject is that innocent folks perish under that system. If anyone can convince me that
there's a system which can prevent that...I'd be all for it.

I agree Lucas, as i stated in a previous post, people who did nothing have lost their lives due to lawyers, police and elected officials simply needing to add to their record, move up a pay grade, and then claim ignorance should the facts prove otherwise. I also understand evidence can be fixed by these same people all the way up to DNA results. Simply look at the case of three children killed 16 years ago right down here in West Memphis, crooked police, crooked lawyers and public officials pushed conviction on three teens who had nothing to do with the crime. Even as I type, one of them sits on death row even though recent DNA has fingered another person.

That being said, if someone is recorded taking someones life simply to do it, or they admit to it, then I believe we need to simply put them down.

    Since I don't fit the image of hillbilly...how bout............redneck?

Seeing as about half of the 'guilty' confessions tendered are false, I wouldn't say that anybody admitting to a crime should be opening a door to the death penalty. So long as our legal system is imperfect, the death penalty doesn't make sense.

As for the list of countries that still have the death penalty, the only real surprise is Japan.

I think the more we all understand a subject the more likely we are to all agree. Im not 100% against the Death penalty, i mean if someones been really bad they probably do deserve it.

But to be honest given the way the system is corrupt Id rather see Billy Bob seek out his own retribution for murdered family members than have the Government running around killing people on his behalf.
Why did Obama cross the road?... Because he made a campaign promise not to.

i've been thinking about it since this thread appeared, and here is a shock - this evil conservative thinks that there are better alternatives to the death penalty, so long as stringent safeguards are in place.
When did you change your opinion? Different to the one expressed in the capital punishment thread.

There's nothing wrong with someone changing their opinion... for instance I used to believe in Global Warming until I looked at the facts and actually thought about it.

That might make an interesting thread, "has the Pit ever changed your opinion"
