    The Death Penalty?

Im not sure but I dont think we've had an argument about this topic yet. So I just wondered what the Good people of LP thought about the Government Killing people as a form of punishment. Should the Victim/Victims family be given a choice of death, maybe they could do the executing. Perhaps it could be televised to help pay for the proceedings and deter others.

    Anyway just wondered.

Long story short: Some asswads deserve it, but so long as the system make mistakes and allows just ONE innocent soul to
perish by error....Capital Punishment is ethically a big ol' no no.

I defy anyone to say that innocent souls cannot get befookered in such a way.

BTW...and as an aside (and to stoke a fire) most people I have encountered who are staunch pro-lifers
are big-time 'kill the bastarders". Yeah - I just made up a word. Sue me!

I say---> shove the fuck in a cubicle and throw away the key.

Kind of agree with Lucas here. I'm not against the idea in theory, but our legal system makes so many mistakes that administering a shall we say 'irreversible' punishment is just irresponsible. And for what it's worth, the victim's families should have no say whatsoever. Let the professionals handle it.

Under the current injustice system we have running in this country, I am of the opinion that at least 75% of the people in our prisons shouldn't even be in there...so...under our current methods of determining "guilt", I am against the death penalty. As others have said, I am for it in theory, but not for it under the current conditions in the United States.

I used to be one of those people that would yell, "Fry 'em first, try 'em later!". Of course Believe it or not, I used to be a very religious person with some pretty far "right wing" beliefs(but I'm better now. LOL). Most of my friends and family are still religious "right wing" people, and I can honestly say that most of them support the death penalty. That is partly why I find some religious beliefs to be extremely hypocritical. After all, the Bible clearly states that, "Tho shalt not kill", and "Judge not, lest Ye be judged".

If only one innocent person is executed, it's one person to many. And even todays science isn't always 100% perfect.

Here are 8 examples of people that were executed that may have been innocent (I'm sure that it's just a coincidence that 5 of the 8 were in Texas).

The biggest problem with common sense is that it's not really that common.

I wish... the days of prisoners rights tend to outweigh the rights of victims in this country... if prison meant hard labour and not the soft option of three probably quality meals a day, gymnasium and other benefits, then maybe I'd be less inclined to see the death penalty reinstated here

I have talked about this with many people who have been in prison, including one family member, and I definitely agree with Lucas!
