Contrails effect temperature

When the planes were grounded after 9/11 the temperature was altered.

Could this be used to manipulate conditions for or against global warming? (I won't use the term climate change as it was created by spin doctors as a phrase designed to not scare us mere idiots)

Very interesting, Charlie! The speculation in the article that contrails might help reduce global warming is a bit of a stretch considering the fact that these "clouds" contribute massive amounts of greenhouse gasses. I suspect that the GHG emissions dramatically offset the amount of good that contrails might do to limit warming. Just my speculation, however.
