    Congress!Comments invited

For those who think the Republicans put the States in financial peril during the last eight years, perhaps you don't understand who controls the "pocket book" of the U.S. government. The Congress is the segment of power that oversees money, not the president. Hence, six years of a Republican Congress under Clinton's presidency led to a balanced budget. A reminder: the Democratic Party has been in control of Congress since 2007 - and for a time before that led the Senate under Tom Dashle (due to convincing a Republican - "jumping Jim Jeffords" - to bail out and become a Democrat, giving the Democrats a majority in the Senate). Further, this Democrat-run Congress and the Obama Administration have spent more in less than a year than all the previous administrations combined!! This includes those that fought world wars! They are making it impossible to get out from under all the debt for generations to come. Yes, Republicans did like "pork spending" like all politicians - but they came nowhere near the out-of-control spending of these Democrats! The melt down of the housing market and banking system in 2008 stems from Democrats who insisted that banks make loans to those who could not afford them, a policy that stretches back to Jimmy Carter - and why the likes of Senator Chris Dodd will not be around after the next election (and Barney Frank should be given the boot for the same reason).
I c/p this from comments on Times online, anybody disagree? If anybody wants to read all comments go to site.

Americans are given a choice: Tax-and-spend Democrats or borrow-and-spend Republicans. Seeing as there's very little difference between the parties, Americans get generically angry whenever the job market goes into its next evitable down cycle and kick out whichever interchangble party happens to be in charge.

I'm OK with the outcome of the Mass election. The Democrats need to have their heads bashed against the wall and wake up and start doing the peoples business. And if Obama can't get health care passed without 60% of the senate he too should be replaced.

OK, let's require a 60% Senate majority to pass every bill and see how many laws get passed in twenty years seeing as all Senators have had allegiances to their parties over their home states for 100+ years. The Republicans have ground the political system to a halt as a pathetic last resort to remain relevant and the Democrats played right into their hands by trying to ram through flawed legislation. This is gonna be really fun when the GOP eventually assumes the Congressional majority and gets this crap thrown back in their faces.

Both sides have completely failed at this point. I'm not sure how much to blame Obama for anything since he was assigned to work with the second worst Congress of all-time. I'll concede the distinction of the worst Congress of all-time to the one that dissolved the Union.

He has been the bête noire of gay rights activists since 2001, when he said it was “not normal’’ for Jacques and her partner to have children, and referred to Jacques’s role in the relationship as “alleged family responsibilities.’’ Brown quickly apologized and said he chose his words poorly.

Activists have neither forgotten nor forgiven.

“Scott Brown has demonstrated a persistent antagonism toward equality’’ for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community, said Scott Gortikov, executive director of MassEquality, an advocacy group. “He’s not someone who even likes or tolerates gay people or their families.’’
And I remember the days Nikki when you were more liberal than most!
