The last Sunday of June saw GOP presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) dominate the airwaves, making the rounds on Fox News Sunday and Face the Nation. On both, Bachmann repeated lies about health care reform's effect on jobs and Medicare, sentiments echoed by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on This Week. Bachmann and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) falsely stated that even if the debt ceiling weren't raised, the country would not go into default, something most economists disagree with. On Face The Nation Bachmann falsely called the stimulus a failure and continued to baselessly blame President Obama for high gas prices. Lastly, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ), fresh off his departure from the debt ceiling talks, was on Fox News Sunday to falsely claim that tax increases would hurt the economy, a claim that the previous decade proves false.



CLAIM: Sen. DeMint Claimed That Even Without Raising The Debt Ceiling, The Country Won't Default[/h][INDENT] CANDY CROWLEY (Host): And I'm convinced that what you have outlined here is not going to happen between now and August 2[nd. So what you're saying is I don't care if the country defaults, unless we do this I'm not voting for this.
SEN. JIM DEMINT: I do care if it defaults. But the fact is Candy, we won't. If we never raise the debt ceiling again, we are going to pay our bills, we are going to pay social security.
CROWLEY: Why does everybody say differently? Why does the Treasury Secretary say 'this is going to be catastrophic?' Why do economists say it'll shake the markets? Why don't you believe that?

yeah, I think she's a bit of a flake. Kind of a pointless observation, don't think it will spur much debate Nikki.

But let's talk about the debt ceiling issue ps'd at the bottom. That is some interesting stuff. I too, have wondered a couple of things. For one, are we seriously saying that without borrowing, we can't pay what we owe on what we've borrowed? Should we not be planning for when "the money runs out" now, by not spending money on less than vital needs? How can we in one breath speak of financial doom, while at the same time we are spending money on foreign aid, spending money fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, and now Libya.

It clearly is not a case of "we will default". The only way we default is if we choose to pay what we owe LAST instead of first. This is piss poor management. This is how companies go out of business, buying new shit instead of paying what they owe on the old shit.

Just like "government shutdown" this is all a bunch of political bs grandstanding to allow our elected leaders something to fight about.

First increase tax's on the wealthy.
then, withdraw all troops in the Middle East and Afghanistan on top of legalize marijuana and Internet gambling and tax the crap out of it all the while eliminating duplicate federal agencies while we invest federal tax dollars in rebuilding the infrastructure like failing bridges and dams then regulate investment banks and oil companies especially those wanting to drill domestic along with normalizing relations with Cuba so we can along wit China drill for oil off shore, import their cigars and vacation there which would lead to investing in the African market's economy but first we must allow unions to organizes without government sanctions protecting business which will increase the income of American workers who in turn will have more money to spend which will increase more demand for better housing newer fuel efficient cars then we make overseas companies pay huge tariffs wile giving tax incentives for those who stay onshore ...

we've covered increased taxes on the wealthy here ad nauseam . . . you promote it knowing full well you won't pay any more. If your rates go up, your advisers will just tell you what you need to do differently to avoid paying more in taxes. And it is those things that you will do differently that will have a negative impact on end users (read that the middle class you pretend to care about).

Think of Bachmann as the "New and Improved" Sarah Palin. She's got the same support from the Conservative Right and Tea Partiers, but hasn't lost the Independent voters like Palin did.

Much like Palin, most of the media is going to be attacking her like a Michael Vick pit bull. The attacks will increase in direct proportion to her standing in the polls. It's going to be fun to watch, and may even backfire. Every little gaffe she makes will be blown up to hysterical proportions by the media. The relentless attacks are going to smell fishy to independents after a while. Eventually they'll tune them out, then they'll get tired of hearing about them, then the independents will turn on media and support Bachmann out of spite. Think of it as the most negative campaign ever run, and it's going to be run against her by the media. It may give her underdog status, sympathy, and the support of independents because of it.

Remember, the people that hate her the most, aren't going to be voting in the Primaries.

To be fair, I don't believe she actually "adopted" any children, she was just a foster home. On top of that, she claims to have "raised" 23 foster kids, but truth be told, she only had some of those kids for as little as a week. I'm not a parent, but I believe that it takes longer than a week to "raise" a child.
