My parents ahve also decided to give me a wholly taxable wedding gift, so that's not helping either.
I started this job early last year. Went from being technically below the poverty line in income to making well over the average family's income in one year. But, that income didn't change from Dec 31st to Jan 1. If taxes weren't raised, then why is more federal taxes bing taken from me? I didn't change my status, I'm not claiming anything less.... should still technically be the same.

Maybe it was a planned change from years ago. Either way, Obama hasn't done a damn thing with taxes (or much else) since the Congress has been in absolute gridlock. Only Congress had change taxes btw, NOT the President. The President can argue and lobby and persuade, but it is Congress's decision. The Democrats in the Senate are not lining up like puppy dogs as the Republicans did for Bush. Say what you want about Republicans, but they know how to stick together. Democrats have become a more moderate party which buys you votes but also leads to in-fighting like we've been seeing. Unless Obama plans on going Bush-style and writing a ton of semi-legal executive orders and effectively shitting on the Constitution, it's going to be the primary hurdle of his administration. Both parties are completely off the rails. Also, a big thanks to the Supreme Court for making the effective corporate sponsorship of political candidates legal. That should ease the problem...

Mr Obama had also promised to contribute about £1.8 billion on the Global Fund to fight Aids, tuberculosis and malaria, but his budget request fell short by £1.2 billion, the GAA said.

It calculated that this meant that one million people will not receive treatment for HIV, and 2.9 million women will miss out on services to help prevent passing the virus to their unborn children.
Another broken promise that will affect lives!

Hmmm, how were there obstructionist? when you have 60 votes in the senate you can't even be filibustered. you vote it's 60 to 40 and what was voted on is passed in the senate. people were seeing the back room deals being made and got pissed...dem's knew if they passed it that way they would be out on thier asses come mid term elections. and just the fact that they are trying to pass a very unpopular health bill anyway, could be the main reason they lost mass., even though it is clearly a liberal state. and the economy was heading down fast when bush took office, 9/11 didn't help...he cut taxes and it turned around, sounds like we need more of that now along with fiscal responsibility from congress.

The point is that 'we'll just fillibuster everything' is not a long-term plan for the country, but that's all Republicans are giving us. They're basically forcing Democrats to bat 1.000 with every bill they pass on, which is nearly impossible. Of course now, the Mass. vote took even that option away. The optimist in me hopes that this will force the Congress to actually develop bi-partisan solutions instead of a party war. If real ideas start coming out of the GOP side, there might be some hope here. Until then, we're still waiting.

Also, so much for the job market recovery:

I guess Obama is nothing more than a worthless twatflap after all. On the plus side, every currency in the world sucks except ours! USA! USA!

What i was trying to say SB is that if the proposals were valid and wouldn't break the country he would have had the support of the dems and independants in the senate and the house. and i know it's not obama, it's palosi that scares the shit out of me. she dosn't give a rats ass what the people think, she's going to do it her way.

Well... so much for my twatflap theory:

Unemployment rate falls to 9.7 percent, 20,000 jobs cut - Yahoo! Finance

Unemployment somehow dropped back down to 9.7% despite every indication that it was going up this month. There's probably a revision on the way, but the job market is getting there. Let's hope the trend continues at least until the midterm elections so Americans can be voting on policy and not misdirected abject rage.
