A partisan Supreme Court - Los Angeles Times

    A partisan Supreme Court
The decision on campaign finance points to something more troubling than unlimited corporate contributions.

This week's Supreme Court decision granting corporations the right to spend unrestricted amounts of money supporting or opposing candidates in federal elections is so strained in its reasoning and so removed from the realities of American life that it would be grotesquely comedic, were its implications not so dire.
It's facism... the power of the state and corporations.

Why did it happen? Because the corporations bought the political process. And the Supreme Court decision will only make this worse because now corporations have free reign to advertise and fund the candidates of their choice, so don't go expecting them to support candidates who are in favor of the common good.

Sadly the only way to get elected in the U.S. is with an electoral budget of millions and that money is easiest raised from corporations who have deep pockets. In return they want a "return on their investment" and that's a greater role in legislation, demanding less oversight and accountability.

The Republicans are the party of the corporations and they are now synonymous with the people who fund them.

But don't worry it's all the fault of the liberals...

once upon a time the republicans were the party of big business, but that's not the case anymore...at least if you judge by where the money goes. for example, the majority of wall street money now goes to the democrats.

and as much as i dislike the supreme court decision you mentioned susan, all it really does is allow the money to go directly to the candidates instead of setting up a PAC and running ads independent of the candidates. frankly, i think it's better if the candidate can be directly tied to the message rather than have an "outside" organization do the mud slinging and then denying any involvement. for example, do you think those "swift boat" ads would have been aired if they were not paid for by a PAC??
what matters most in life is honesty. it's never wrong to do the right thing.
