So this teacher is confronted by this big student in class .. invades her space and call he all sorts of nasty names ... so she smacks him in the mouth ... She was fired and charged with assault but now the charges are dropped but she is still fired ... Go figure.

as usual moab throws misinformation into her posts. maybe she is a victim of misinformation herself and just passing along what she heard or perhaps she knows she is being intellectually dishonest.
if she had changed one small word - "a" to "the" then although still taking a cheap shot she would at least be accurate. you see, there is ONE rural school in Texas 30 minutes from the nearest police station where teachers were allowed by local authorities to carry guns. the way she says it sounds like it's a statewide law.
what matters most in life is honesty. it's never wrong to do the right thing.
what I've read indicates she was put on leave, not fired. I haven't seen anything to contradict that. Her union rep is fighting for her, and I am sure a court would be on her side if they try to fire her without a nice package to send her quietly on her way
Its sad when a teacher hits some one like this, even though I am sure the kid pushed her beyond her limits. Having said that, the teacher should have the right to wear his little butt out !! I feel sorry for the teachers today, they CAN NOT WIN when trying to discipline kids.
Background: The 64 year old teacher in question was voted "Teacher of the Year" by the students last year. She's been teaching for over 20 years. She has no prior disciplinary actions against her. The student was licking a window during class and leaving a trail of saliva on it. The teacher told the student to clean it up. He refused. The teacher told him to go to the principle's office, he refused and started yelling at the teacher. The student then got up and started advancing on the teacher while being verbally abusive to her. Witnesses say that the student physically pushed the teacher against the wall while yelling in her face.
Looking at the video, I've got to say the teacher did good. I would have recommended going for a knee to the groin rather than the face punch, but it seemed to work. That second punch was a beauty!
Although this video isn't a good as the "Don't taze me man" it's still impressive.
