    The Luvin Poker Mentoring Program

This thread is solely for new members, informative purposes, and those wishing to add poker tips. This is not a thread to debate each other.

The Luvin Poker Mentoring program consists of consistent, skilled, and willing Luvin members who have generously volunteered their time, and their efforts to help those fellow Luvin players improve their game, understand the game, or even introduce them to the game. The mentors listed below were asked, and/or volunteered to help anyone needing help. Luvin Poker has set up a game on Sunday night’s effective July 1st @ 8:15 EST. The Mentors listed are not only available at these times, it is suggested and recommended to play in outside games as well. You must contact your mentor, and set up a date and time that works with each of your schedules. Please use this thread for tips, advice, and a place for new members interested in a mentor, and those skilled players willing to volunteer. If you feel you would like to volunteer, and would make a good teacher, please private message me- kellieintx, and I will gladly discuss this with you and add you to our list.

Please, we welcome ALL players to this game. It will be a beneficial game for everyone, all positive and educational comments will be accepted. This is a great opportunity for some of us to play a game without the usual winners competing against us, since the mentors will not be playing, only coaching. A great chance for some of us who normally don’t make the money to finally have a chance!

With all of this being said, please remember to keep this thread open for poker advice and those mentors wishing to volunteer, and those looking for help or asking questions pertaining to poker. Thanks and see you in the game!

One thing I gained from having a mentor last week, was learning more about postion poker. When to bet based on positioning. I tried to explain this to Gigi and she said, in a game yesterday she was asked why she called a bet. Can we please have some explanations as to when it's ok to play- let's say the hand

Ace Diamonds and 9 Diamonds... $100 blinds based on positioning?

Well depending on how many are seated at your table.....

but we'll say there is a full table of 9 players.....

A9 suited is a decent starting hand. Its definitely worth a limp in any position. If I'm in a later position and there is a minimal raise, I still might call this hand. A HUGE raise, and I'm probably laying this one down, unless I have a huge stack and can afford the call. If there is a semi big raise, and there are a few callers, i might call this just for pot value, again if I have enough chips to sustain the call and it not hurt my overall chip status.

Lets say i'm in late position and everyone folds to me. You have a good enough hand to raise the blinds. I would try a pot size bet to the blinds. If I dont get called I've gained the blinds. If I do get a call then I've got a good hand to see a flop. If I miss....and I think my opponent has missed and he checks...i might throw out a feeler bet. If he calls or raises you are beat and lay it down. If he bets outright....and you have missed, then its an easy laydown. If you happen to catch your flush or two pair, then you are golden. If he bets, and you have your nut flush, lure him in and trap him.

They key here is position and what have your opponents done before you.
Alot of people will call this hand with any amount of raise. Some players Love suited cards. However I'd be a little more weary to call because I dont have as many outs because its not a connector. If it was A 10, I'd be more inclined to call a significant raise.

nicci covered it pretty well. it's gonna depend on chip stack, how agressive the table is, your table image and how close to payouts. there is no one correct answer.

i think i'll find a few hand histories to post that way all the info will be there and we can hear all the different theories.

^^^ Basically she said it how it should be played in my opinion. The fewer the players at the table. The stronger that hand is. If im shortstacked and its a full table. I probably wouldnt play it. I wouldnt want to limp in to be raised later thus wasting some of my precious stack. What i would do also depends on how I feel about the players at the table. If i feel its a tight pre flp betting table. Ill limp in. But if theres a few aggressive pre flp betters still to act after me. Im not going to get in a postion to face off against them with that hand.

Like I said. Ill help any player who wants to play PUBLIC 9man sngs. Ill help them to learn how to consistantly get paid working on building a bank. With the goal of moveing up the buyin amount useing money they've won.

AA, KK, or QQ, I will raise, or reraise no matter what. Doesn't matter to me how many players there are or what my chip stack is. Chances are I've got the best hand, unless by one of those million to one Full Tilt odds, that someone else has KK or AA. Especially if there was only a minimal raise before me, I'm pushing back. With monster hands like this you can't be scared to throw your chips is. If you only call his minimal raise, you are giving him a chance to catch his cards on the flop. Maybe you want to take that chance. Sometimes I do.....but it doesn't always pay off. Especially if he's holding A rag and catches an A.

Just remember...you have to be willing to risk your chips to win chips. By not reraising a pair of queens with only a minimal raise in front of you, and you see that hand all the way until the end and the cards are shown, you've just shown your table you are a very tight, conservative, scared player. They will run all over you and steal from you as much as possible. They know if you raise after that....you've got a seriously HUGE hand. Why wouldnt you? You didnt raise before with QQ. SO you must have something even better if you are raising.

***people often do this to throw people off as well. to make them think they play like this. its so they can get away with more bluffs by their opponents thinking this***
