Banned Poker Programs at FT & Poker Stars

Check out the list of banned poker software programs at popular sites (In particular Poker Stars). The list is very long!
One particular program especially caught my attention.... "Poker-Edge"
If you go to their site it details how their system can give you a massive edge over your opponents at the table.
Anyone caught using this program will have their account suspended at both Full Tilt and Poker Stars.
    So, my questions are...
Do these programs basically allow the user to "cheat" ? and have any members used this or other programs to get an edge over their opponents at the tables?
I'm interested in the members views on this subject.

I've previously used Poker Office (which is not on the list of forbidden programs at FT). I don't know about the other software, but PO gives one some kind of edge over the opponents. But it does nothing which couldn't be done with a pen and a paper (and a calculator). Also the feature I've used most is the tracking of the played hands and other statistics.

My free license for the Poker Office expired already over a year ago so I stopped using it. Haven't missed it much.

I googled 'poker edge' and found an article that stated .......

..........I later got information from Poker Stars administration as to why Poker Edge was not allowed and they clearly demonstrated to me its black hat programming that actually mines data via a community of users. This data, which can display an opponent's style of play and cash win/loss record can be used by the software user to his advantage. The idea is that you can join a table of players unknown to you and sit down with a dossier of information and history of those players that have happened to be tracked by others who have played with them before.

    and .......

Only recently Full Tilt actually put up a list of prohibited software that included Poker-Edge. Now it is one thing to have a list of prohibited software and actually do something about it, which up until now Full Tilt didn't really "prevent" its use. That all changed when operators of Poker-Edge actually boasted on their own forum that Full Tilt doesn't even care about using the Poker-Edge on their tables and cited mockingly that "Poker-Edge does have a b2b affiliation with fulltilt such that if you signup with fulltilt through the poker-edge link... you'll get poker-edge for free (for three months). So I truly doubt that fulltilt cares very much about that prohibited list."

another thing you can do at the poker edge site is type in a players name, and it brings up the type of player that that person is I.E. Shark, Bomb, FIsh, Calling Station etc etc. (Believe me, the data it brings up is pretty accurate on the style of player you/they are)

I did some random searches on some of the LP players on this site (Won't mention names), But it provided some very useful information.

Give it a try... It's a lot of fun !

Well of course I would argue the results of that software because it called me a fish. Anyone who knows my play knows that is definitely not true, but for argument's sake I'll let it slide.

Can u tell me how Bluffman, Mastro, Dale, Sipowitz, CC and Joelpokergod are all categorized the exact same? Nuff said.

Hey Tim...it says you are a calling station.

Maybe I should be a calling station so I can win 25k.

Yea, I don't like this software.

I love the software I use on my mac. Its called Mac Poker Pro..its free to try if u r on a mac for like 1000 hands, then its worth the purchase price. It monitors cash and tournies.

Hell, that explains why everyone has been calling my bluffs lately

I haven't really tried any of the programs, but I find it interesting that it can keep track of your played hands so you can see how you're really doing and for instance if you do hit 35% of your flush draws as you're supposed to (I could swear my percentage is more like 12 ). I know Pokertracker is very extensive in that area but I haven't gotten around to trying it out yet.
