Tom hanks is great... Robert Duvall, Gene Hackman, Jack Nicholson.... way too many greats to pick 1

The one actor that can play any role is Johnny Depp. He can do them all....and they are all believable.

Robert Duvall is a good one... I will see a movie just because he is in it.
I also think Robert Downey jr has amazing talent, even when he was battling addictions.

Best is subjective. Even favorite seems like it should be separated into eras, at least. But at gunpoint it's Robert Duvall. The end. And he could almost have the title from "Lonesome Dove" alone.
