Two things: 1) A guy I used to curl with for about 15 years, who still plays with my dad, has been diagnosed with inoperable stomach cancer and has been given three months to live. Worse is that he just went through a year of kemo and such for colon cancer, which the doctors were sure they had beat -- he was going in for a final MRI to officially sign him off and send him on his way when they found this new mass. He's a great guy, always upbeat, just a damn fine individual. He just turned 65.

2) My boss got canned today. Not because he was doing a bad job, but because our District has been performing very poorly in the last couple years due to mismanagement by senior staff. Those senior staff decided they had to find a scapegoat, and there was no way they were gonna pick themselves, so they made my boss the sacrificial lamb, which will change nothing and will not, in any way, shape, or form help to solve the systemic problems. And all this from a company which proudly broadcasts to anyone who'll listen the fact that we've made the Top 50 Best Companies To Work For for six or seven straight years in both Canada and the United States. Bastards.
