    NOT a HOAX

This happened to me last week, when I click on an image. I was so confused when I got the pop up, saying I was infected, then I quickly saw a light blue box with a frowning face on it, so I shut the comp down. Then ran a "quick scan" and nothing showed up as a virus. But there was a new icon exe. file on my desktop, so I ran a full scan, took about an hour and mcafee trapped and killed 6 trojan viruses. Below is copy from email.

For the past few weeks Veracity’s Help Desk team has noticed a dramatic increase in the amount of malware infecting computers. In most of these cases the infection started with an innocent search for pictures from Google Images. Even at Veracity we search Google Images often looking for pictures of products/diagrams that we work with on a daily basis. Through some very sneaky coding, attackers found a way that simply clicking on a link to an image from Google Images initiates a malware install.

After clicking on the link to an image a popup will appear claiming that you are infected. Do not try to click on the “X” at the top of the window that pops up. In some cases clicking on that “X” will initiate the installation of the malware. Instead shutdown and reboot your computer. This will ensure that the malware does not have an opportunity to install on your computer.

You can be easily fooled into thinking the pop-up is a legitimate message from Microsoft and/or your antivirus software. It is actually quite amazing how similar these pop-ups appear to look like the real thing. Being cautious will save a lot of time if you do become infected.

It is worth mentioning that this version of malware is very bad. It more often than not requires a system rebuild, following the above instructions will prevent a lot of downtime.

Well crap. I knew that the pop up window claiming you have a virus was bs, but I had no idea that closing that window by clicking on the x would be a problem. Fuckers. Fortunately I have not run into that particular malware installer in a while. I wonder if you can just close out your browser instead of reboot the computer.

I partitioned my hard drive and put ubuntu on it a couple of years ago. I need to just make the switch and start using it instead of windows. I'm sick of worrying about all these viruses and shit.

    Gotta luv dem Macs!

I can't tell you how many times I've been researching info, looking for pics, and DL'ing porn and then I find some .exe file sitting in my download folder. It doesn't do anything on macs, plus, I've got security in place such that nothing can open or access the internet without my permission.

    Good luck!

Beth the box I got looked exactly like a microsoft update. Then it started showing like 25 virus and moving real quick. This happened to me before, so i knew to close it down, and scan. The thing I have learned about these trojans, the grib into hidden registorys and programs, deep in your system. If you know you clicked that opo up...run your virus scan...a full scan. You nay not notice it yet, but you will. I highly recommend this. These could be password scams, or a worm that will infect your address book, and spread the virus from you, to your contacts. Don't take any chances..wipe and reload is a bitch, and you lose all your pictures, files etc. better safe than sorry. The pic I clicked on was a red push button called rim shot in google images.

pfft I've had my romp in Mac land and was unsatisfied. lol I'll get back to Ubuntu when I have more time on my hands to focus on it, get it updated and transfer my files, etc. I much prefer it over Mac and windows.

I have seen this multiple times from multiple funny picture sites like evilmilk, etc.

Always just Xs it all off, they use the name whatever ever malware you have tro make it seem like it real

I have not seen any other problems from them though, so figured the real malware was isolating them....and run Ccleaner periodically, which basically wipes everything out but what you want
