FYI: Over past few days exchanged some emails with support regarding the star rating system.....




Thank you for contacting Support through Live Help regarding the star rating system.

I do understand that not everyone is happy with the star rating. As with any new feature there is a period of adjustment; we are still building on the star rating system and we take member’s comments and suggestions into consideration.

You did not say why you were not happy with the system and we would be interested to hear this so that we can address these issues.

Because we have added the star system it has meant that we have been able to open other tables on the network which will in the long run increase the traffic on the tables, and increase the numbers you are able to play with.

So with this in mind, we actually offer our players more choices, and add the star rating into the mix to make the tables and play more interesting.

I hope that as we improve this new feature you will find it adds more your playing experience.

Thank you for your response. I, with you, look forward to increased traffic and competition on your site, and without disagreeing with your assertion that the star rating increases traffic, I will offer that Pokerstars was the largest poker site and they offered an opt out provision to having ones star rating displayed.

The reason why truly is immaterial as I wish not to debate the issue with you, but alas it boils down to you are providing information to individuals that they have not earned. Depending on the day I'm ranked either 4 or 5 stars by your site and having this broadcast limits my play. If an individual has a history at the table with me and has taken notes regarding my play then they should be able to benefit from their work and attention to detail. Being able to differentiate good players from weak players is a crucial skill inherent in poker and taking this component out of the equation dramatically changes the game.

In the US we are currently dealing with our government restricting our freedom to play poker online. Poker is all about freedom and choice and this mandatory inclusion in a rating system goes contrary to that concept of choice.

here is what I have picked up about the star ratings . . . . if you play cash tables at the micros, the newbs think you are awesome when you take their money and they rate you five stars.

regular players, like myself, take notes on players rather than go to the hassle of rating them with the stupid stars . . . it's a step that is totally a waste of time and not worth my effort to share what I know about a player with everyone else.

So, you are being rated only by people who don't know what they are doing and are easily impressed. So I don't think it means a whole lot.

I've also noticed that the good tournament players I face day in and day out all have one or two stars . . . it seems tournament players don't bother with the rating process at all.

These are my observations. don't let the stars go to your head. And if they make a newb fold to your raise, well that 's a good thing around here, cuz so few know where the fold button is

The stars annoy me too.

Just to give you all some background how they came about. ELG merged with a Euro network last year. They had tons of private cash games and people complained because they couldn't get in on the action. The new network refused to let our players play with them. They said they lost too much money. The networks compromised and said if we could rate all players so they knew what they were getting into, they would open all games up to us. So, they devised the silly system. On the flipside, that was when we opened up those Euro tables and if any of you have played on them... then you understand the amount of fish and why they were losing so much money
