DANISH BURGER
(I created this burger to honor my Danish heritage)
Traditional Danish ingredients meet in a whole new way
For the frikadeller:
2 pounds ground sirloin
1 small onion, finely minced (divided)
¼ cup bread crumbs
¼ teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ cup half and half
For the remoulade:
½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon curry powder
½ teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon onion, finally minced
The bun:
6 multi-grain buns
For the toppings:
6 ounces Havarti cheese, cut into six equal slices
1 cup of finely shredded red cabbage
Mix frikadeller ingredients together (reserving 1 teaspoon onion for remoulade) in medium bowl. Form into six equally-sized patties. Refrigerate.
Mix all remoulade ingredients together in small bowl. Refrigerate.
Preheat gas grill on high for five minutes. Place burgers on grill, close lid and cook on high for five minutes. Turn, close lid and cook for four minutes.
Place cheese on top of burgers. Place buns on top rack. Close lid and cook for one minute or until cheese is melted.
To assemble:
Spread bottom of bun with remoulade. Pile red cabbage on remoulade. Place meat patty on top of the cabbage and put the bun top on.
