Turmeric Rice


2 T olive oil
1 diced onion (I actually use shallots if I have them)
3 diced garlic cloves
1 t turmeric
2 t salt
2 cups short grained white rice
4 cups water
1 cup frozen peas

Heat oil in large skillet. Sauté onion and garlic. Add rice and sauté for 5 minutes. Add salt and turmeric. Stir to coat rice. Add water. Boil. Cover. Lower heat and steam for twenty minutes or until the water is absorbed.
Add peas just before serving, letting them steam until warm and still bright green.
