    Watch, learn AND be entertained!

I taught in a school... and what I see instead is a drive towards MORE standardization, LESS arts, and MORE traditionalism (as in reinforcement of the industrial model of education).
Hopefully someday we'll get it right.

That's a great video Susan. Thank you for sharing.

I do shudder to think what would be happening to me if I was growing up now. I'd probably be forced to pop ritalin like I use to eat sweet tarts.

My Mom tells a story about my first day at Kindergarten -- I came home and she asked me how it went. I supposedly crossed my arms, scowled, and said, "I don't like it! They didn't teach me to read."

    You're welcome.
We all do know that we are now in the "Information Age" don't we???
It just boggles my mind that we are still trying to promote Industrial Age thinking...

as a general concept i think the video makes a good point (even if it is a cartoon that must be designed for those with room temperature IQ's ;-) )

i do think though that it falls into the same sort of trap that they say education has fallen into. that's because they are advocating replacement of our current method of education as if it has no value. that's a bit linear for my taste, i say incorporate these concepts with the parts of our current structure that actually work. for example, while it is worthwhile to teach creativity it is also worthwhile to teach discipline. either one without the other is less than the combination of both as far as society goes. yes, a few individuals as outliers at either end are fine, but as a whole i don't think we want the masses to congregate at either end of the spectrum.

    enough said.

    nice find susan.
