Matter of interest re:Nobel prize

OSLO (AP) — The five-member Nobel Peace Prize awards committee has named Thorbjorn Jagland of the Labor Party as its new chairman and Conservative Kaci Kullmann Five as deputy chair.

Committee members are named by the Norwegian Parliament for three-year terms. The other members are Aagot Valle of the left-wing Socialist Left Party, Inger Marie Ytterhorn of the Party of Progress and Labor's Sissel Roenbeck.

The ones who are gloating in 'Bazza's success probably know these names. The 5 worthies who awarded the 'prestigous' prize. If you've never heard of them and can't find pinpoint Norway on an 'unnamed map' perhaps time to reconsider how prestigous the prize is.

ps I'd heard of the chairman but none of others, yes I can label Norway on a map.

Two things must be remembered about the Nobel Peace Prize. The first is that Nobel was never clear about his intentions for it. The second is his decision to have it awarded by politicians from — and we hope the Norwegians will accept our advance apologies — a marginal country relative to the international system. This is not meant as a criticism of Norway, a country we have enjoyed in the past, but the Norwegians sometimes have an idiosyncratic way of viewing the world.

Therefore, the award to Obama was neither more or less odd than some of the previous awards made by five Norwegian politicians no one outside of Norway had ever heard of

Cry me a river. Most specifically, the Glomma River which is apparently the longest one in Norway at an astounding 598 km.

I'd be impressed if you told me you hadn't googled that information. Even more impressed if you told me you were aware of the 5 politicians names who decided to award the peace prize (before I named them for you).

...probably. I will absolutely be meeting Michelle Obama and Barack is supposed to be kind of tagging long, maybe-ish. I guess the schedules of presidents have to remain fairly flexible.
