Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian leader, says Paul the Octopus, the sea creature that correctly predicted the outcome of World Cup games, is a symbol of all that is wrong with the western world.

He claims that the octopus is a symbol of decadence and decay among "his enemies".

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants to develop nuclear weapons, but in the meantime he must flay the West with somewhat feebler weapons — like Paul the psychic octopus.

In a speech in Tehran, the Iranian President repeatedly invoked the eight-legged caphalopod who won international celebrity with his faultless predictions of Germany’s World Cup results and Spain’s victory in the final.
