The Nigerian man accused of the failed attempt to blow up an aircraft on Christmas Day provided useful information to American authorities which the FBI has followed up at home and overseas, officials have confirmed.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab spoke freely to FBI agents immediately after his arrest at Detroit Airport but after he had had surgery for burns on his legs he stopped co-operating and was read his rights.

Prosecutors have charged Mr Abdulmutallab, 23, with trying to blow up the flight from Amsterdam to Detroit with a bomb hidden in his underwear, drawing criticism from some people who believe he should face a special military tribunal and be questioned by the intelligence services rather than the FBI.

My fault, should have printed whole article, he was giving them loads of info - well they using ones unlikely to be under suspicion so not highly trained, after surgery and when he able to understand his 'rights' he clammed up.
