There are increasing worries at the most senior level of Government that the Duke's links to an American sex offender could severely damage his reputation as a flag-waver abroad for British business.
The meeting .. followed initial disclosures over the Duke's links with Jeffrey Epstein, who served a prison sentence for soliciting an under-age girl for prostitution.

The Duke's unpaid role as Britain's Special Representative for International Trade and Investment, which sees him travelling the globe promoting British business, has come under fierce scrutiny since the disclosures of his 16-year friendship with Epstein.
He has also faced criticism for alleged links with Saif Gaddafi, a son of the Libyan dictator, and over the sale of his former home, Sunninghill Park, to a Kazakh billionaire for £15 million – £3 million more than the asking price.
The Duke last met Epstein in New York in December, staying with the disgraced financier and attending a party following his release from prison. It was the first time the two men had met since Epstein's conviction.
Two embarrassing photographs have emerged in the past fortnight, stoking the controversy.
One shows the Duke walking in Central Park with Epstein in December while the other depicts the Duke with his arm around the waist of a 17 year-old “masseuse”, who subsequently accused Epstein of sexual exploitation
