    Change 101

    Stem Cell Research

You can go on and on about Gitmo, the economy or for that matter
make the simplistic conjecture that we lefties here consider the Big 'O' our Messiah.

Here's a little piece of news that turns me the fuck right on!

ABOUT FREAKIN' TIME!!!....Out with the old (Bush league BushThink)
in with the new (Logical, Compassionate and ForwardLookingObamaThink)

Plenty of people will be healed and to them... Obama will surely be their Messiah

"Today's ruling by the Food and Drug Administration will allow doctors to inject stem cells into patients for the first time. It marks a major change in US government policy and comes as President Barack Obama prepares to lift a ban on government-funded stem cell research imposed by President Bush.

To be run by US firm Geron, the new trials will be conducted on people seven to 14 days after they suffer their spinal injury. It cannot help those already paralysed for longer.

Dr Thomas Okarma of California-based Geron said: “This marks the beginning of what is potentially a new chapter in medical therapeutics — one that reaches beyond pills to a new level of healing: the restoration of organ and tissue function by the injection of healthy replacement cells.” If results are positive, the therapy could be approved for wider use within three to five years.

The use of stem cells is considered unethical by “pro-life” groups because it involves destroying embryos."

There are many potential benefits in stem cell research.

The main benefit is to gain the ability to duplicate parts of your body (arms, legs, heart, spinal cord, etc.).

This would drastically change the world of medicine.

Every time someone had to get a lung (or any organ) transplanted there would be no need to find a doner; and once the lung (or any organ for that matter) is transplanted, the patient would not have to recieved drugs afterwards, because his immune system would automatically accept the lung.

Also, organs that cannot possibly be donated and accepted in a new body (like spinal tissue) could be duplicated. This means if you are parylized (the spinal cord fractures), your spinal tissue could be duplicated by stem cells and then trasplanted.

But here is how stem cell research works. when I say stem cells, I am referring to a cell that grows in to a certain organ, think of it as a seed. All humans are is a collection of organs. An embryo in its first stages is a collection of stem cells that grow into organs. to get an exact copy of your heart is to clone an embryo using your DNA; and when the stem cell for the heart developes, you extract that, then you have your heart.

This is unless you use adult stem cells (these are not from an embryo), but these stem cells are much harder to work with and the technology to utylize these cells is years ahead of us unfortunately.

Brain and muscle stem cells have been discovered with replacement cells which would regenerate lost cells (via injury or disease) automatically to fill the void. Stem cell research and results are extremely promising for the up coming future and still needs more extensive research to bring the best benefits in hope to help fight against life threatening diseases.

If Obama doesn't accomplish one other thing during his tenure
this ground breaking policy will guarantee his legacy as a progressive
    and forward looking man.

The table above indicates that most people should be happy about this turn of events.

    Can we get a unanimous WOOT? W O O O T !!!!!!

I'll give more than a WOOT WOOT, I'll give a "ABOUT MOTHER FUCKING TIME"!!!!

This is one of the biggest reasons why I voted for Obama. This is the biggest and best news I've heard in the 3 1/2 years since my accident!!!
Even if it turns out that it's to late to help me, maybe it'll keep others from going through the shit that I have these past few years!

Not to mention the other good it can do in the way of finding a cure for things like MS, MD, Child diabetes, Parkinsons, etc. the list is endless.

If that's what you need I don't see why not.

Is that why you have a hat on in your profile pic?
