I have a shoot wrestling match tomorrow as a last minute fill in against Sonya Stala. (I think that is her wrestling name. Her full name is Sonja Staladottir, or something like that.) The pay is decent and it will be a good tune up for wrestling larger women since Sonya is 6'0" tall and is expected to weigh about 200 pounds. I understand she is visiting this area from Norway. Her record (mostly in Europe), against men and women, is 39 wins, 48 losses, and 2 draws (mostly against men we think). It is more or less an underground type match, which will be an interesting throwback to my younger days, probably without many rules...and probably sort of illegal...maybe...LOL.

It is nearby and my mom will be going with me to watch. Mom used to be a wrestler, herself, so she knows the routine on these kind of matches. She...uh...participated in a few crazy matches in her day, too, so it will sort of be a trip down memory lane for her as well. These events are probably not as crazy as they used to be...right? Right!

My manager and I think it will be a good experience for me. It has been a while since I have participated in one of these kind of matches...maybe in a smoke filled room with drinks all over the place...just what I need to "toughen me up a little" like I used to be in the old days, although in those days I was sometimes a somewhat inexperienced 140 pound girl sometimes trying to wrestle with a sweaty 200 pound man...at times. Yeah...some of those old matches are lost to my record. I didn't keep good records in those days, but I did make some money, and it was scary and exciting! I probably had 100 matches back then that don't show on my "official" pro record. I learned some of my wrestling skills the hard way, for sure. It will be interesting to sort of return to that for 1 match. When I learned from my manager they were looking for a last minute replacement in that venue I jumped all over it on the spur of the moment.

Now I am a 175 pound woman, with lots of experience, wrestling with a 200 pound woman, so it won't be quite the same experience. I will let you know how it goes when I get back later tomorrow. No Leader Board Poker Game for me on Saturday.

I did a little rambling in this particular blog, and probably told you more about my past than I should have, so I will shut up for now. Yeah, I used to be even nuttier than I am now. I am sort of pumped up about this match! That old, scary feeling is lingering just beneath the surface. Can you tell?

It turned out to be a 30 minute match, most submissions wins, 1 minute rest between submissions...with the clock stopped during rest periods. Sonya didn't have much going for her but her 39 pound weight advantage, which made her difficult to move around but not impossible. We weighed in right before the match. She was 216 pounds. I was 177 pounds. I won the match 5-0. I have a little stiffness in my back (and my balance seemed to be a little off), and Sonya complained of a sore wrist (and she sort of ran out of gas towards the end), but there were no real injuries. All in all, it was a good workout.

In April, 2004, I lost a 30 minute decision, by referee scoring, to an experienced man (John Kipp). That was my last loss in a real match. In 2 rematches, in January and April of 2005, I beat him by a 30 minute decision and a 22 minute submission. He outweighed me by about 35 pounds in the 1st 2 matches and by about 40 pounds in the last one.
